We are a full-service reptile, fish, and plant store located in the heart of the Bloor West-Runnymede neighbourhood, in the west end of Toronto's Junction. Easily accessible by public transit, with plenty of parking available in the plaza. Visit us and explore one of Canada’s largest selections of reptiles, including lizards, snakes, and amphibians. Our store also boasts a wide variety of freshwater fish, invertebrates, plants, and an entire room dedicated to houseplants, terrarium plants, and rare finds like carnivorous plants and orchids. You’ll find the classics like leopard geckos, corn snakes, ball pythons, and bearded dragons, but for true enthusiasts, we also offer rare species such as Agamids, Green Tree Pythons, Tortoises, rare geckos, and unique freshwater fish not often seen elsewhere. In addition to pets, we carry a broad range of feeders and supplies for reptiles, amphibians, and aquatic creatures. We also offer a large selection of indoor gardening supplies, as well as collectible fossils and curiosities for those who enjoy the unusual.

We are looking forward to the upcoming Reptile and Plant Expo on May 31st. You can pre-order animals and plants to pick up at the Expo to save shipping and delivery costs especially if the only spot you want to stop at on Sunday is the Expo. Due to space limitations pre-order is available for animals, plants and bio-active critters only. You can select pick up at expo in the shipping option of our online checkout. See you all on May 31st

Black-throated Monitors (Varanus albigularis microstictus) are now available in-store — and this is a very special arrival! These incredible monitors have not been available in Canadian pet stores for many years, making this an exciting opportunity for serious reptile enthusiasts.

Native to eastern and southern Africa, the Black-throated Monitor is the largest subspecies of the Varanus albigularis complex, known for its dark throat, thick scaling, and intelligent, observant nature. They’re powerful, inquisitive animals capable of recognizing their keepers and forming long-term behavioural bonds.

In captivity, they thrive in large, secure enclosures with deep substrate for digging, strong basking zones, and enrichment to keep them active and engaged. Their diet should include lean meats, insects, eggs, quail, and the occasional rodent to maintain proper nutrition and body condition.

⚠️ Due to their size, strength, and substantial space requirements, Black-throated Monitors are best suited for experienced reptile keepers familiar with large species and custom-built enclosures.

These monitors make incredible display reptiles for dedicated keepers ready to provide the space and care they require.

You can find these and many other rare and unique reptiles at tailsandscales.ca
