🐶 Why Does My Dog Shake at the Groomer? Let’s Talk About It.Have you ever dropped your dog off for grooming and noticed them trembling, pulling back, or suddenly refusing to walk through the door?
It can be upsetting to see — and as pet parents, it’s natural to wonder:
“Why is my dog so scared?”
“Did something happen here?”
But shaking at the groomer doesn’t automatically mean that your dog has been treated badly. There are many reasons dogs may feel nervous during grooming.🐾 1. They can feel your emotions
Dogs are incredibly sensitive to our body language and emotions. If we become nervous, hold them tightly, or use a worried voice, they may think, “Something must be wrong.”
🛁 2. Bath time
Some dogs simply don’t enjoy being wet, handled, or bathed — even when it’s completely safe.
💨 3. The dryer
Professional dryers can be loud and powerful. The sound and sensation can feel overwhelming, especially for dogs that aren’t used to them.
✂️ 4. Clippers & scissors
The sound, vibration, and movement around their body can make some dogs uncomfortable or confused.
🐾 5. Nail trimming
For many dogs, paws are sensitive! Nail trims are one of the most common parts of grooming that dogs dislike.
❤️ 6. They’re dogs — they don’t understand why we’re doing it!
They don’t know that bathing, drying, brushing, nail trimming, and grooming are helping keep their skin, coat, paws, and body comfortable and healthy.
A good groomer watches your dog’s body language, works at an appropriate pace, and gives breaks when needed. Our goal isn’t simply to finish a haircut — it’s to build trust and make each visit a little easier.
And sometimes something funny happens:
A dog may shake dramatically while Mom or Dad is standing there… then settle down shortly after they leave. 😄🐶
