Some new and returning faces in for training with us, kicking summer off with a stellar group of dogs.

Tulip: a new rescue joined for some foundational communication and bond building

Bella: came for some support in addressing some pushy behaviours, building a solid recall, overall engagement and relationship building

Bones: coming back for some refreshers with guarding and fulfillment now that her family has a new member

Xavi: confidence and relationship building after some big changes and potentially working towards becoming a therapy dog

Lucy: a young adolescent working on channeling her drive and developing polite manners for society

Blue: another young adolescent joining us for support in arousal management, channeling his drive and building clarity

Each one of these dogs is so unique but they all have one thing in common: incredibly dedicated and loving families supporting them in becoming the best version of themselves

What a beauty of a day!!

Nova’s first trial and I couldn’t be more proud. More than anything it was her enthusiasm and engagement!! It honestly couldn’t have gone better, she really did try and I’m so proud of us for being a team.

Nova came in second in her first but didn’t qualify in her second.

Echo got her Novice Rally title today and the first leg of her advanced. We NQd on our final run but if I’m being honest both NQ runs could’ve probably been avoided if I had redone the stations so it’s not on Echo or Nova.

Super grateful to our trainers Chantal and Tatiana and the whole crew for being so supportive. It’s also so awesome being able to trial together and cheer each other on.

Can you see the difference?

Pic 1 is from January and Pic 2 is from yesterday.

I see more softness in the face, the jowls, around the eyes and just generally in how Grantham carries himself he seems more comfortable in his own skin.

We started working together last October and for some reason January is the most recent pic I have. Boy am I kicking myself because I would love to have a comparison from 7 months ago.

Consistency, clarity, patience, practice and time can do absolute wonders.

Sometimes the most important training you can do is this.

No obedience, no cues, no work. Just hanging out and doing nothing.

For a dog that is always go go go the practice of doing nothing is just as important as physical and mental outlets.

All gas with no breaks is unsustainable.

Balance.

To say that trying to organize 5 humans and 8 dogs for a photo together in a tight space is a bit chaotic would be an understatement.

Today was a huge day for Teddy!!

When we started working with Teddy he was very skittish outdoors, and reactive to every dog he saw no matter the distance. Only a couple of weeks ago Teddy was still unsure of stairs in his house which he now does like a champ.

His mom has truly been putting in the work and learning to lead in order to help build his confidence in the world and it shows!

Not only did Teddy conquer these things at Home Depot, he’s now well on his way to having dog friends and was complimented on how well trained he is when we went into Home Sense afterwards *while* there was another dog reacting at us. Teddy and Nova both kept their cool and were perfect canine citizens.

Please, if you take your dogs somewhere that is dog friendly make sure they are well behaved and under control otherwise these places won’t remain dog friendly.

Today is the halfway mark for our first mentorship week and it’s been such a great experience so far!!

There’s so much to teach, so much to learn and so many new skills to practice.

Super proud of for putting on her teaching hat and leading our mentee Monika with her amazing attitude and willingness to learn.

And ofcourse, we couldn’t do it without our pack members. Model citizens all of them with their varying temperaments and personalities. We love them all so much and they are some of the best teachers.

If you missed out on this round we will be announcing a fall program in the coming weeks. Keep an eye out for it if you’re interested in getting more hands on experience working with dogs.
