I'm seeing a lot of adorable baby skunks out lately.. the evening air carries their "perfume" so I thought I'd share a valuable tip if your dog gets sprayed and you try the popular baking soda & peroxide recipe. THIS ONLY WORKS IF IT'S APPLIED TO A DRY DOG.
We naturally want to use water to rinse them off but skunks spray is oil based so the water can actually lock in the smell! 🫢😷
This is the recipe I've had success with for minor sprays (if it gets in your dogs mouth or eyes call the vet emergency clinic!) Also im not a vet, so always speak to a professional before trying this.

1 quart of 3% hydrogen peroxide (freshly opened)
1/4 cup of baking soda
1 to 2 teaspoons of liquid dish soap (like Dawn)
Instructions
Mix fresh: Combine the ingredients in an open bucket or bowl right before use. Do not store or put a lid on the mixture, as it releases gas and can build pressure.
Apply dry: Apply the solution directly to your dog's dry coat without pre-wetting them with water, which can lock the oils in.
Lather and wait: Work the foaming mixture thoroughly into the fur. Avoid your dog's eyes, mouth, and ears. Let it sit for 5 to 10 minutes.
Rinse and wash: Rinse your dog completely with tap water. Follow up with a regular, high-quality pet shampoo to clean the coat, then rinse again.
I also use an awesome product for bedding, couches, carpets etc from Global Pet Foods - Danforth called NOKOUT highly suggest you have a spray bottle on hand. It's great for any strong odors.
