For the first time, The Northern Collar Club is joining the City of Timmins Light It Up Santa Claus Parade, and obviously we couldn’t just quietly participate like normal people. 😂 We decided we needed to bring a whole pack with us and we want you to walk with us!
The parade is Saturday, November 14th at 6:00 PM. So dig out the Christmas sweaters, light up collars, antlers your dog absolutely did not ask for, and enough battery powered Christmas lights to be visible from space.
Now for the responsible adult portion of this announcement. 😂 A Santa Claus parade is basically distraction level 472 for a dog. There will be crowds, children, other dogs, floats, music, flashing lights, costumes and probably at least one inflatable snowman your dog finds deeply suspicious. No aggressive dogs or dogs with a bite history are permitted, and we do not recommend this event for dogs currently struggling with reactivity in busy environments.
If you’ve been training with us and you’re thinking, “Chrissy… do you actually think my dog is ready for this?” message me before signing up. We can talk about it. There is absolutely no prize for throwing your dog into the deep end before they’re ready. Our biggest priority is making sure this is fun and safe for everyone, especially the dogs. If we have concerns that the parade environment isn’t a good fit for a particular dog, we may ask that they sit this adventure out. There will always be another one. ❤️
We’re asking for one dog per adult handler. Dogs must remain on a secure leash (we recommend 4ft) and under control throughout the parade. Your dog does not need to greet other dogs; they are completely welcome to walk along, mind their own business and silently judge everyone’s Christmas outfits. We support that. 😂
And because this is Northern Ontario in November… the parade goes on. 😂 Rain, snow, cold, wind, slush, sideways snow whatever Mother Nature decides to throw at us, we’re walking. Dress yourself and your dog appropriately for the conditions, bring p**p bags, and make sure costumes or lights are comfortable, secure and don’t interfere with your dog’s movement or vision.
And one more important thing: please don’t just show up on parade day and try to find us. 😂 You MUST register through our website to walk with The Northern Collar Club. Registration lets us know exactly how many humans and four legged Christmas friends we’re bringing and allows us to send registered participants the meeting location and final instructions before the parade.
