🎒 The house is suddenly quiet... does your cat miss everyone?

Cats have a reputation for being independent little creatures—and honestly, they worked very hard to earn that reputation. 😹

But independent doesn't mean completely uninterested in their humans!

Some cats may notice a big change in household routine when everyone goes back to school. You might see them seeking more attention when everyone gets home, becoming more vocal, following their people around, or simply spending more time waiting in their favourite spot.

Other cats might be perfectly content to spend the day snoozing in a sunbeam. ☀️😴

Both can be completely normal!

The important thing is making sure your cat has:
🐾 A comfortable place to rest
🧶 Opportunities for play and enrichment
🍽️ A consistent feeding routine
🪟 Places to watch the world go by
❤️ Quality time with their humans when everyone's home

And if your cat spends the entire day sleeping until the kids get home...

Well, they may have simply decided that school is their problem now. 😂

As a family-owned business, we believe there are some days that are meant for something other than business.

Today, Ruffin’s Tillsonburg is closed so our team can spend Labour Day with the people (and pets!) they love. ❤️

We’re incredibly grateful for every person who chooses to shop local and support our store throughout the year. Your support allows us to do something that means a lot to us: give our team time to enjoy the important moments outside of work, too.

The shelves will still be here tomorrow. Today is for family, friends, furry companions, good food, and a well-earned day off. 🐶🐱

🎒🐹 Back to school means getting everyone back into a routine — including the smallest members of the family!

Dogs and cats might make it pretty obvious when they want attention, but our small pets need their daily care too. 🐰🐹

A new school schedule is a great opportunity to give kids some age-appropriate pet-care responsibilities, such as:

🌿 Helping provide fresh hay
🥬 Preparing appropriate fresh foods
💧 Checking water bottles or dishes
🧹 Helping with habitat cleaning
🧸 Refreshing toys and enrichment
❤️ Spending some quiet time interacting with their pet

Of course, the right responsibilities depend on the child's age and the animal, and grown-ups should always make sure the pet's needs are being met.

But giving kids a little routine around pet care can be a wonderful way to help them stay connected with their furry (or not-so-furry!) friend once school gets busy again.

Because being small doesn't mean needing any less love. 💕
