COMMUNITY SAFETY REMINDER: LIVE ANIMAL TRANSPORT ON BOARD

As our team spends significant hours and kilometers each week on regional roads and highways traveling between client sessions and calls, we’d like to kindly remind the community to maintain a safe following distance, especially around marked service vehicles.

Our trucks regularly transport working dogs and training equipment. Tight following distances dramatically increase collision risks, especially when unexpected highway slowdowns, sudden stops, or wildlife crossings occur.

Tailgating does not get anyone anywhere faster. It could very well lead to individuals not making it home just because someone wanted to save a second or go faster.

Please give working and transport vehicles room to maneuver safely. Thank you for your attention.

We've been toying with an idea for a little while.

It is not an idea anymore. Starting next week, we will be retailing high-quality communications equipment as part of our outdoors retail expansion. Available by email, direct inquiry, or our current K9 Training Store.

We are not talking about Walmart, DeWalt, or Milwaukee basic radios. We will be bringing in Retevis, a brand that specializes in communications as a primary function. While they may not be Motorola or Kenwood, they are a very good starting point for anyone.

Whether you are an outdoor enthusiast and need basic license-free walkie talkies, a construction team or contractor who needs license-free FRS radios or just want to get into the HAM radio space... you can now do it locally.

The full launch of the True North Outdoor & Tactical Supply store will be happening later this year or early 2027. As of right now, we have a team field testing and abusing the equipment we are going to sell. It will be released as testing completes. Abusing it so that we know it is good equipment, because when lives depend on equipment doing its job... you want something that works.

We are going to be bringing in unique products to help make Thunder Bay the outdoor retail hub it is meant to be.

With the 2026 wildfire season finally drawing to a close, it was great to connect with everyone at the Hymers Fall Fair this past weekend.

Many people stopped by our booth asking if we were the local crew that stepped up when the community was overwhelmed. To be honest, we’ve never experienced public recognition quite like this, and we received so many kind words over the weekend.

That appreciation isn't taken lightly, especially knowing how many other individuals, neighbours, and organizations put their boots on the ground. We may have been recognized publicly, but to everyone who stepped up quietly behind the scenes: thank you.

Looking ahead, the goal is simple: learn, rebuild, and better prepare for the next season. This community showed its resilience in the face of serious adversity, and that strength won't change.

Our hearts and prayers remain with everyone who suffered loss this season.

After a much-needed rest, True North K9 Training is officially resuming regular operations!

The 2026 Wildfire Crisis tested our province and our local communities in ways few of us have ever seen. I want to extend my deepest thanks to every individual, organization, and team member who stepped up alongside us to help evacuate and care for displace families and their animals.

Despite the intense pressure and high-stress conditions, our community stood strong. As wildfire season continues, TNK9 remains fully at the disposal of anyone who needs our support—we are unwaveringly committed to our friends, clients, and partners across Ontario.

To everyone who reached out: your encouragement, kind words, and positive support kept us grounded through the endless late nights, early mornings, and long stretches away from home. Your backing means the world to our family.

We will be announcing our upcoming Fall promotions shortly—stay tuned!

Today at our field hospital, we saw first hand the dire need for care. Meet Mavis, a 16 week old puppy.

Mavis' owners are members of Matawa First Nations, who are all affected by the wildfires and helping evacuees. Mavis was attacked by a much larger dog and was quickly brought into us at Matawa Pets & People field hospital. We are a field hospital. We aren't set up for traumas, but, in Thunder Bay, nobody else could see her.

Mavis quickly became very ill, and needed oxygen, IV fluids, pain medication and more. Mavis needs an ICU for suspected internal bleeding and other serious injuries, and will likely require surgery over the next week.

When we called all over the area... there is nobody equipped. Nobody with 24 hour care, which she needs.

The closest place is either the GTA, Manitoba, or into the states.

Fortunately, Boreal Veterinary Hospital in Thunder Bay graciously allowed us to bring her in for diagnostic imaging and xrays. But, she's critical.

Our only option is to fly her to Southern Ontario. Which is what we're coordinating now, with the help of Critical Care specialists at King Animal Hospital.

The cost of everything will be at least $15,000, if not more. We've told the family that we will be doing everything to save this adorable puppy.
