YOU CAN RIDE HORSES FOR 50 YEARS AND STILL BE A STUDENT.

And honestly, I think that’s the point.

My Grandpa used to say, when we were around horsemen and women he really respected:

✨”I hope I can learn as much as they have forgotten.”✨

That saying has stayed with me over the years.
I really believe everybody has something they can teach you.

Sometimes it’s a big thing.

Sometimes it’s the smallest adjustment and you’re thinking,

“Why didn’t I think of that?”

And sometimes, it’s learning what not to do.
But there’s always something. 🚫

The horse industry is always growing and changing. You can spend a lifetime with horses and still have plenty left to learn.

So ask questions.

Stay curious.

Listen to people who have been there before you.

And don’t ever be too proud to say, “I don’t know.

“Show me.”

Because we all started in the same place.

We all started with a question: HOW?

I think that’s one of the things that separates the greats from the average.

Not that they know everything.

✅They just never stop trying to find the answer.
Keep asking.
Keep learning.
Keep getting better.

Because there will always be another horse, another problem, another question—and another opportunity to learn something you didn’t know yesterday. 🐴

Last CBWR of the year 🎉

I really slacked off with the pictures because I was busy enjoying the weekend.
Always so proud of our crew, the horsemanship, kindness to others and helpfulness to anyone who needs it is something I’m so very proud of.
Denali & Carlos did so great in their barrel and pole runs this weekend. Consistently having beautiful patterns even if they were a little lazy 😂

Decided last minute to take Fame on Sunday, to get her out of her environment and gain a little more experience and she surpassed my expectations! From the stall, to warmup to inside the ring, she acted as if she’d been there a million times. We were a little fast in our classes (she has about 30 rides total over 4 years lol) but all in all it was a great experience. Hoping I have more time this winter to get her on the pattern so she can actually get going in her career next year

Also a shout out to Mya who ran a 24.5 in poles on Carlos a new personal best 🔥

Crossed the finish line to NFR number 10… hard to put this one into words! Something I truly never dreamed of, but wow, the places this horse and her friends have taken me. Just thankful for the ride and our family and friends who have made the last decade possible. Thank you God! Thank you Sister! Let’s go back to Vegas!

BE CAREFUL WHO YOU LET TEACH YOU.

Being good at something and being good at teaching something are two completely different things.

Just because someone can win doesn’t mean they can teach you how to win.
Just because someone is popular doesn’t mean they’re right.
🚫And just because “that’s the way we’ve always done it” doesn’t mean it’s the best way.

Find someone who can explain WHY.✅
Someone who can tell you what they’re asking for, what they’re looking for, and what they’ll change when it isn’t working.
Someone who cares about the horse underneath the rider, not just the result on the scoreboard.
Someone who doesn’t get defensive when you ask questions.
Someone who doesn’t make you feel stupid for wanting to understand.

🙌And honestly?
Find someone who is comfortable saying:
“I don’t know.”

A good teacher doesn’t need to pretend they have every answer.
They’ll tell you they don’t know, and then they’ll go find the answer.

Because a real coach isn’t trying to build dependence.

They’re trying to build understanding.
I want the people I teach to eventually know enough that they don't need me for every question.

I want them to understand their horse.

I want them to understand why something works.

I want them to be able to troubleshoot when things go wrong.

I want them to develop an eye.

I want them to become confident enough to make decisions without waiting for someone else to tell them what to do.

And eventually? 💯
I want them to be better than me.
Because if I’m doing my job correctly, I’m not creating students who need me forever.
I’m creating horsemen and women who could eventually stand where I stand, help the next person, and pass that knowledge forward.

That’s the goal.
Not to keep you dependent.
Not to keep information locked behind a gate.
Not to make you feel like you’ll never know enough without me.
Teach people so well that they eventually outgrow you.

And when they do?
Be proud.
Because your legacy isn’t how many people needed you.
It’s how many people became better because you taught them.

So quit gatekeeping.

Share the knowledge.

Explain the why.

Ask questions.

Stay curious.

And be very, very careful about who you allow to shape the way you think about your horse.
The best teachers don’t build followers.
They build more teachers.

💭 What’s the biggest lesson a trainer ever taught you that had nothing to do with winning?

Exercises that involve a change in bend such as serpentines are beneficial to you and your horse.

Changing the bend requires balance, flexibility and accuracy. It can also help release any build-up of tension within the muscles on the inside of the bend. A smooth change of bend can only be achieved if your horse is straight for one or two steps.

Serpentines are good for developing
✔️ Fluency
✔️ Rhythm
✔️ Outline
✔️ Accuracy
✔️ A smooth, even bend

When ridden correctly serpentines can contribute to symmetrical muscle development and straightness.
