I've had the privilege of working with hundreds of dogs and their families to help strengthen their bond and build effective communication. I started dog training as an Accredited Pet Training Instructor with PetSmart at a high-traffic location in Hamilton, Ontario. I had fantastic mentors, access to an abundance of resources and continuing education, and significant hands-on experience with dogs
of all backgrounds, breeds, and temperaments. I graduated with distinction from the University of Toronto. I have an Honours Bachelor of Science with degrees in Comparative Physiology (Specialist), Biological Anthropology (Major), and Psychology (Minor). This education provided me with an understanding of animal biology, genetics, animal social dynamics, learning theory, communication, and more. This education furthered my scientific understanding, critical thinking, problem-solving, and client interaction skills. Additionally, establishing appropriate, personalized treatment plans for each individual. Certification in Animal Chiropractic is to come.
I am continuously learning, furthering my knowledge, and am open to adapting as science clarifies our understanding of canine anatomy, physiology, behaviour, genetics, and more. I always have a quality audiobook or course on the go to ensure I keep up-to-date to provide the most ethical and research-supported care. I am currently completing a Professional Canine Nutrition Course.
My personal life reflects my passion for dog training. I currently have four dogs who have all been adopted/rehomed from less-than-ideal situations. They are all different breeds, ages, and sizes. No dog is exempt from deserving love and a fresh start! Dr. Mekenna Bowers HBSc DC
