Job Summary
The Veterinary Assistant supports veterinarians and veterinary technicians in delivering excellent patient care. This role involves assisting with animal handling, maintaining a clean and safe hospital environment, supporting client services, and performing a variety of administrative and clinical tasks.
Key Responsibilities
Safely restrain and handle animals during examinations and procedures.
Prepare examination and treatment rooms.
Clean, disinfect, and maintain kennels, cages, and equipment.
Feed , exercise, and monitor hospitalized animals.
Assist with laboratory sample collection and processing.
Prepare surgical packs and assist with surgical procedures as directed.
Stock medical supplies and maintain inventory.
Provide excellent customer service by greeting clients, answering phones, scheduling appointments and processing payments.
Educate clients on basic pet care, medications, and post-treatment instructions under veterinary supervision.
Maintain accurate patient records.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Veterinary Assistant certification is an asset but not required.
Previous experience in a veterinary clinic or animal care setting is preferred.
Comfortable handling animals of various sizes and temperaments.
Strong communication, organizational, and teamwork skills.
Ability to lift 50lbs and stand for extended periods.
