Happy Easter to everyone except Bronx, whose entire world has been flipped upside down.
those of you that follow me & the rescue will remeber Bronx, the sweet puppy that was so badly abused and beat that he wouldn’t walk…
Bronx stayed in rescue for nearly 2 years before finding his “forever home”. We posted an update about him and genuinely thought he hit the jackpot with his family, that was until Friday morning when the adopters called me and said I had to pick up Bronx right away, they couldn’t keep him any longer. The 2 dogs got into a fight and it was too much to handle.
I wish I had a magic wand that would have been able to immediately find a Foster and pick him up on the same day, but that’s not how a foster based rescue works and I needed time to put a plan together. Bronx sat isolated from his family for 2 days until I could get to him.
Yesterday morning, I picked up Bronx and was advised that he had a small scratch on the inside of his leg from the fight but otherwise fine… So I drove him to his foster where I could take a better look and what I found has my head spinning. 🤯 The small scratch is a deep laceration that needed medical attention. Along with a split in his tounge and multiple small punctures and scabs on his face and head. Im beside myself thinking about the fact that he sat in pain for 2 days before I could get to him. My poor Bronxie. 😭 That wasn’t fair.
He saw our vet today that advised us he probably should have had surgery as the laceration is deep and a drain tube should have been put in but because the fight happened days ago, we are moving forward with open wound care for now to see how this heals.
Bronx is now on pain meds and antibiotics.
Our plan for Bronx is to ensure he heals and then we plan to put him into a 2-3 week board and train program, as the adopters told us he “randomly flipped” on their other dog. & we owe it to Bronx to dig deeper and get him back to the dog he was when he was adopted out to them.
The most upsetting part is that Bronx was devestated leaving them, I had to physically put him into my car, he kept going back to the door, I think he knew. He sat in my car trembbling - so much that my driver seat was shaking. The drive from his family’s house to the foster’s home was brutal; he was crying, legitimately crying and grieving. I wanted to die in that moment. (see video attached) I can’t explain the feeling of that moment. Somehow he understood exactly what was happening and that the life that he knew and loved had been taken away from him. That was the longest 30 minute drive.
Bronx is now with his foster family, the one he was with when he was a puppy, he remembered them and he’s going to be okay.
obviously, when we adopt our dogs out, we hope that it is for the duration of their life. We don’t anticipate them returning back into our care, that being said - our contract states that if for any reason they can no longer care for their dog, it has to be returned back to the rescue. I will forever stand behind my dogs and without a shadow of a doubt I will take them back.
When I intake a dog, I make a promise to them that come hell or high water I will be there for them if ever they need me after adoption. It is for this reason we have not intook any new dogs recently. Our rescue account is still in the negative from our other intakes. That being said; we couldn’t not give Bronx the medical attention he needed. But we need help, Between the vet bills and the board and train cost we need to gather 3k to get bronx back to a spot where he can go back up for adoption.
If you are in the position to help, please consider donating to Bronx. 🩵
This wasn’t the life he was supposed to have but together we can give this boy the best care. Remember, every donation is a good donation and even $5 goes a long way when multiple people come together.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts & we couldn’t do this without you. 🐾
