What kind of collar does your cat wear?

We always recommend breakaway collars for our feline friends. Whether they are indoor only or go outdoors as well, breakaway collars are always the safer option.

Collars that don't open are a risk for getting caught on the environment when cats jump and pose a risk for strangulation.

If you visit our store, you've surely met everyone's favourite staff member, Kida.
Today, her recommendation is both a cute little toy, as well as a dental diet!

Why does it take more than one treatment to get rid of fleas?

Fleas have a multi-stage life cycle and only a small percentage of them are actually living on your pet at any given time. Eggs, larvae, and pupae are hiding in carpets, bedding, furniture, and cracks in the floor.

That’s why effective flea control requires:
- Treating every pet in the household
- Staying consistent with prevention
- Washing bedding regularly
- Vacuuming thoroughly and frequently

It can take several weeks to fully eliminate fleas, but sticking to the plan makes all the difference.

If you’re dealing with fleas or have questions about prevention, our team is always happy to help or answer questions.

Ticks are active in our area. Is your pet protected?

Ticks aren’t just a summer problem. In our region, they can be active anytime temperatures are above freezing. They’re commonly found in tall grass, wooded areas, trails, and even urban parks.

Beyond being creepy little hitchhikers, ticks can transmit diseases such as:
- Lyme disease
- Anaplasmosis
- Ehrlichiosis

What you can do:
- Keep your pet on consistent tick prevention
- Check your pet after hikes or outdoor play
- Remove ticks promptly and properly
- Avoid tall grass when possible

Remember, many tick-borne diseases can take weeks to show symptoms. Prevention is much easier and safer than treatment.

Not sure which prevention is right for your pet? Our team is happy to help you choose the best option

Medication Spotlight: Apoquel

If your dog is always scratching, licking their paws, or dealing with red, irritated skin, they might be dealing with allergies.

Apoquel is a prescription medication we use to help control itching from allergies (both environmental or food-related). It works by blocking the signals in the body that trigger itch and inflammation

It’s not the right choice for every pet, so we always recommend an exam first to make sure it’s a good fit.

If your dog seems uncomfortable or itchy, feel free to reach out or book an appointment. We’re happy to help figure out what’s going on
