I’ve been watching Viggo’s pirate slowly become harder and harder to see as his summer coat grows in and his winter coat sheds out. I wasn’t ready to say goodbye to the design just yet and am thrilled I was able to bring it back to life with just a quick outlining! Happy to have him sporting this bum design for a while longer yet 🤎 🏴‍☠️

I clipped Prince again today, almost 3 months to be exact since his last clip and I couldn’t believe how long his coat was! I should have taken a before picture. It wasn’t very dense but it was quite long. I was able to give him a new bum design with how much hair there was to work with! They really are so Individual with how fast their coats return after clipping, it’s something I’m asked fairly frequently. Unfortunately I don’t have a simple answer as they are all so unique. He looks cute as ever now and ready to go to work! 🖤🤍

The importance of clipping preparation can not be more highly stressed. We are entering a wonderful time of year where bathing is now possible! Yippee, all horses (and donkeys) need to be bathed prior to clipping. Most would benefit from TWO baths even to remove the winter build up of dirt and dander on the skin. Equally important would be the *blanket/sheet* that goes on immediately after the bath. We are all smart enough to now know the first thing your very clean horse is going to do is roll after their bath. If this happens without a blanket on, please restart and bath again.

My personal routine is the bath with two rounds of shampoo and one of conditioner, moisturizing spray, blanket on, next day big thorough groom with elbow grease, then clip. After clipping it’s always a good idea to bath or hot cloth with moisturizing product to clean and nourish your horses skin and coat post clip. Going forward I continue to use moisturizing spray every time I groom to prevent a dry and brittle coat.

Here is my handsome Jake showing the steps of preparing for his clip, as well as his after shots 🤎

Skittles! 🤍🤎 one of my 27yo seniors rocking her fresh clip today. Just a quick Hunter clip for her as she has been working up a sweat munching grass in the field. Monday is supposed to hit 27 degrees and I’m glad she won’t be sweating nearly as much. I left her leg hair on to give her some protection against the flies, while her body will be protected with her fly sheet.
