This is why if you get a puppy and especially have a multi-pet household or young children, you teach your dogs young that it's okay if hands or other faces are close to their food bowl! This could have been a VERY bad situation if Shyla here was not desensitized. Thankfully, we trained her as a puppy that hands/faces near her food bowl is not a bad thing and doesn't require her to guard her food.

Thank goodness for the cooler weather! The dogs got to get out and have some much needed safe exercise today.

How to cool down a cat?

Cats can be harder to keep cool because they might not like having things put on them or lick ice treats. So what are some other ways?

Yes, you can try putting a cool, damp cloth on them. You can also try freezing a bandana and putting it around their neck.

What else?

You can also grab a box (cause cats love boxes!), put a towel in it and place two frozen water bottles under the first layer of towel. The cats will love lying in the box and be able to keep cool without getting wet!

Ways to keep your dog cool at home if you don't have a fan.

- soak a bandana in cold water and then stick it in your freezer. Once it's frozen, carefully pry it apart and stick it around your dog. As it thaws, the cold water will seep into your dogs neck skin, keeping them cool!

- put various treats into some water and then freeze it. Once frozen, take it out and let your dog go to town! Not only will the ice cool down your dog, but it will also keep your dog stimulated as they work to get the treats out of the ice.

- soak some tea towels I cold water, ring out so the towels are damp, and then lay it in your fridge. When the towels are nice and cool, you can put them on your dogs bed or a towel for them to lie on and cool down. You can also dab or lay the towel on your dog to cool them down as well! (Note- this works for cats as well, as long as they will let you!)

As the post had said- "No dog has ever died from missing a walk!"

We've canceled all our walks for today, tomorrow, and Monday. With Temps reaching almost 40 degrees- it's not safe for them to walk, even with all precautions in place. The risk of heat stroke is just too high.
