Drako - 8 years old, Boy
Drako – 8-Year-Old Male Lilac French Bulldog
(Born October 24, 2019 | Neutered | Fully Vaccinated)

Drako is a potty-trained, low-maintenance French Bulldog who enjoys a relaxed lifestyle—lounging around the house and soaking up the sun are some of his favorite things.

He was originally purchased from a breeder as a puppy and has been with his family since then. Drako is now looking for a new home, as his current owner—who has three dogs and a young child—is no longer able to manage the workload and has made the difficult decision to surrender two of the dogs, including him.

Drako would do best in an experienced, adult-only home, or with older teenagers who understand how to confidently handle dogs. He can be food possessive and may display reactive behaviors, so he needs an owner who is calm, confident, and consistent with boundaries.

While Drako can get along with other dogs, he requires slow introductions and time to feel comfortable. He has completed a 6-week boarding program focused on obedience and behavior, which has helped significantly, but he will still benefit from continued structure and guidance.

Despite his challenges, Drako has a loving and affectionate side. With the right person, he is capable of building trust and forming a strong bond, responding well to a consistent and confident handler.

Drako is highly food-motivated, which can be a great tool for ongoing training and reinforcement.

Miku - 5 years old, Girl
Miku – Female Pomsky Mix (Born September 2, 2021)

Miku is a spayed, fully vaccinated Pomsky mix weighing around 30 lbs. She is currently looking for a new home, as her owner—who has three dogs and a young child—is no longer able to manage the workload and has made the difficult decision to surrender two of the younger dogs, including Miku.

Miku is fully potty trained and has a wonderful temperament. She is great with kids and babies, and gets along well with other dogs, cats, and animals. When meeting new people, Miku is friendly and affectionate—she greeted me with gentle excitement and happily followed me around.

She loves long walks and spending time outdoors. Miku has a moderate energy level: she doesn’t require excessive exercise but would thrive in a home with someone who enjoys an active lifestyle.

Miku has no aggression issues and is very food-motivated, which makes her responsive and easy to work with.

Nina - Girl, 1-year-old Calico cat
Nina is a 1-year-old Calico cat. She is a small-sized cat, weighing around 4 kg. She is fully vaccinated, potty trained, and a great eater.

Her previous owner had to give her up due to allergies. Since coming into my care, Nina has been incredibly easy to welcome—she settled in right away as if she had always been part of the family, with no transition period at all.

She is the sweetest kitten, very affectionate and loving. Nina purrs a lot, follows you around, and loves to sleep with you. She enjoys showing her love, and if she feels she’s not getting enough affection back, she may give a gentle (and harmless) love nibble.

Nina is active, playful, and full of personality. She gets along well with other cats, though she can be a little bossy. She is not the greatest with dogs.

She is smart, expressive, and will make a wonderful companion for someone who can give her the attention and love she deserves.

His original name was Daniel. He was rescued in Beijing. About five or six years ago, he was adopted by Kari, a well-known writer in Vancouver. Now, he lives on in her book.

I shared this with his rescuer. Rescue work is challenging and stressful, and it can sometimes make you lose confidence in the world. But this—this is truly the reward for every rescuer. It’s the inspiration and encouragement that keeps us going, or at least keeps me going.

His name is Bowie now. I still remember the first time I met him.

Thanks to Halo's Pet Rescue, Karen Nixon!
On Thursday, 5pm, Jan 22, one of our adopted dogs got lost. Karen was able to trap her and took her home on Saturday morning. She is safe and happy. It has been physically and mentally exhausting over the past 2 days; luckily, we had the help of Karen and Halo the dog, a wonderful team!
