MREC Horse Park — what a weekend! 🦄❤️
Our final Horse Trials of 2026, and what a way to finish the season!

We were treated to absolutely gorgeous — and VERY hot — weather, a fantastic atmosphere and some seriously impressive courses. We headed out with 11 Unicorn riders, many of whom were stepping up to new levels and new challenges.

MREC has certainly been given a new lease on life, and it was wonderful to be there. There is so much history in this venue, and for those of us who have been around MREC for many years, it was lovely to see some familiar old faces along with new ones, and catch up with people we haven’t seen in far too long. There is something pretty special about a place that holds so many memories for so many people.

The courses were beautifully designed and definitely gave everyone something to think about! The show jumps sparkled with their fresh paint in the sunshine.

Some of our riders had fantastic results, some had days that didn’t quite go to plan — but every single one came away with something.
And that’s what this sport is all about. The highs, the lows, the nerves, the excitement and everything in between.

A huge thank you to MREC Horse Park for a fantastic weekend, and for the wonderful dinner for competitors and coaches on Saturday evening. It was such a lovely touch and gave everyone a chance to relax, laugh and recap the day together.

Thank you also to everyone who helped make our weekend run smoothly — Ella for being my extra pair of hands on Saturday, Sam for helping with the drive home Sunday, Rebecca for all the organizing behind the scenes, and of course all the friends and family who come out to support our riders.

We are incredibly proud of our Unicorn family.🦄❤️
For some of our riders, this may have been their last show with their current lease horse, which makes the end of the season a little bittersweet. New partnerships and new adventures are ahead, and we can’t wait to see what comes next.
We keep learning, keep challenging ourselves and, most importantly, keep having fun with our horses.

That’s a wrap on our 2026 Horse Trials season — but thankfully MREC has Derbies coming up, which we are looking forward to supporting.

❤️ Southlands 2 & 3/4 Phase! 🐴

Coach Emma took the group down toSouthlands Riding Club last weekend for our final Southlands show of the year — and what a fun weekend it was!

Southlands is such a great opportunity for our students and horses to gain valuable show experience in a welcoming, user-friendly environment.

Of course, there was plenty of fun along the way too! The group enjoyed lunch at White Spot, volleyball on the cross-country field, ba****ck riding and burgers at the clubhouse, and even some horse portrait drawing. 🎨😂 We’ll let you decide whether riding or drawing is their stronger skill!

It was also wonderful to see Saje and Atlas back out competing! We’re so happy to have Saje back with the team as she takes on new challenges and continues building her show experience.

What a great way to wrap up our Southlands season! ❤️🐴 A massive thank you to Megan Holm and her team at the club for putting on these events throughout the show season! Your hard work is so appreciated. Highly recommend these events!

🐴 Ella & Max at Aspen Farms! 🇨🇦🇺🇸

What a fantastic weekend at the Northwest International Young Rider Team Challenge, where BC’s Team Canada competed against USEA Area VII’s Team USA!

Ella and Max headed into cross-country sitting in an impressive 5th place. Despite challenging weather and conditions on Sunday, they finished the weekend 7th overall! 👏

We’re so proud of how Ella and Max stepped up, represented themselves and our barn, and took on this exciting new challenge. ❤️

One of our favourite parts of our program is watching our riders grow from their first lessons into confident young equestrians ready to take on bigger opportunities. And BCEA Young Riders is a great way to grow even more!

Congratulations, Ella & Max! 7th overall at Aspen Farms is something to be very proud of! 🇨🇦🐴✨

Island 22 Horse Trials is always one of our favourite shows — not just for the riding, but because we get to camp together and spend the weekend as a barn family. ❤️

A huge well done to Ella and Atlas for winning the Horse Trials EV77 Championship, along with their 2nd place finish at Island 22! What a fantastic accomplishment! 👏🏼

And congratulations to:

• Loghan & Carter — 6th place, EV77

Of course, a weekend like this doesn’t happen without a whole lot of people behind the scenes. A huge thank you to Janice for all the work she puts into running this event and making it such a great experience for everyone. We truly appreciate everything that goes into making the weekend happen! ❤️

Thank you as well to all of the amazing volunteers who give their time to keep everything running smoothly throughout the show. And a special shoutout to Super Dave — Ella’s dad — for always being there to help and keep things moving! 👏🏼

Then there’s the best part of camping together… the evening games! We had lots of laughs at the campsite, and badminton on horseback was definitely a highlight. 🐴🏸

The BBQ was another highlight, especially getting to hang out with our barn friends, catch up, and enjoy some great music from the band. Those are the moments that make these weekends so special. ❤️

And a huge thank you to Kendall and Howard for keeping our barn family so well fed all weekend. The food was amazing!

Fun times out at MREC for some cross country schooling on Wednesday!
Ella and Max were happy to be the first to try out one of the new ditches. Also thank you to Vinnie for being a perfect gentleman , I enjoyed my morning with him.

What a weekend for the Unicorn Stables team at Campbell Valley Horse Trials!

Coach Emma took the team for the weekend, and while it was definitely strange not being there myself, I was so happy to hear about all the fun they had! (I did get to help drop off the horses and wave goodbye, so I wasn’t completely left out 😂).

✨ Day 1 — Dressage
Our riders got to compete in the beautiful new dressage ring on the new footing! It was extra special getting to see everyone ride in the new ring after so many people, including our Unicorn gang, helped contribute toward making it possible. ❤️

✨ Day 2 — Cross Country
And what a day! Double clears for every single one of our riders! 🎉

Seeing the work our riders put in at home come together on course is one of the best parts of coaching. Everyone rode brilliantly and showed so much confidence and commitment. We couldn’t be prouder!

✨ Day 3 — Show Jumping
The weekend finished with more great riding and lots of lovely, steady clear rounds!

🏇 Southlands Riding Club 2 & 3/4 Phase – What a Weekend! 🦄

Our Southlands weekends always begin long before the first rider enters the ring!

We arrived on Thursday and got everyone settled into their home away from home. Horses were tucked into their stalls, tack rooms were organized, and riders had a chance to get comfortable with the grounds and prepare for the busy days ahead. Friday was cross-country schooling day. It was a great opportunity for horses and riders to get out on course, build confidence, and make a plan for Sunday. For some, it was about introducing a new partnership to the Southlands course; for others, it was a chance to fine-tune their ride before competition began. Saturday brought the first official day of competition, with dressage followed by show jumping. Our riders put forward some beautiful tests and confident jumping rounds, with plenty of ribbons and personal bests along the way. Then came cross-country Sunday and the rain! Despite the very wet conditions, our riders tackled the course with determination, excellent horsemanship, and plenty of smiles. We were incredibly proud of how everyone handled the weather, supported their horses, and helped one another throughout the day.

A huge congratulations to Yaslynn, who was awarded Best Turned Out—a wonderful recognition of the care, pride, and attention to detail that goes into preparing for every outing.

We also celebrated some exciting milestones:

✨ Ingrid & Penny completed their very first horse show together.
✨ Annika & Bean competed at their very first horse show.
✨ Alexa completed her very first Entry-level event.
✨ Jazzmyn & Baloo stepped into the competition ring together as a new partnership.

🏆 Unicorn Spirit Award 🦄

One of our new Southlands traditions is recognizing riders who make the weekend better for everyone through sportsmanship, kindness, teamwork, and a willingness to help. Although we didn’t have a chance to present the award at the show, we couldn’t let the weekend pass without recognizing a few very deserving riders.

💙 Ella – Thank you for keeping everyone organized and on track throughout the weekend. You were always available to answer questions from our newer riders, generously shared your knowledge during course walks, and were an incredible support to the Unicorn coaching team. Your leadership and willingness to help did not go unnoticed.

💙 Ingrid & Annika – Thank you both for consistently making sure Coach Emma’s horses had hay and water. Your thoughtfulness, initiative, and willingness to quietly help behind the scenes are exactly what the Unicorn Spirit Award is all about.

These acts of kindness and teamwork are what make Unicorn Stables such a special place. Please remember to collect your prizes the next time you are at the barn!

A huge thank you to everyone who helped make the weekend run so smoothly. Riders were organized, on time, and always ready to lend a hand. Even when the rain arrived on Sunday, the positivity never disappeared.

I especially enjoyed having the opportunity to coach some of Coach Emma’s students and get to know everyone a little better. Watching riders encourage one another, celebrate each other’s successes, and offer support through every phase is exactly what our barn community is all about.

Congratulations to every rider, horse, coach, family member, and volunteer. Whether you brought home a ribbon, completed your first horse show, moved up a level, began a new partnership, or achieved a personal goal, you should be incredibly proud.

Recently our Working Equitation team went to Campbell Valley to compete in the WestCoast Working Equitation Show!

The riders and horses all did a fabulous job. Coach Cass is so proud of all the hard work and progress they have put in this past year

Chantal and Kahlie- finished 3rd in L2
Janet and Spud- finished 5th in L2
Ava and Tucker- there was a few hiccups in navigating the course, But Ava and Tucker had a blast!

Brit and Bella- finished 3rd in L1

Claire and Quince- finished in 1st in L1 Junior 🤩

The teamwork of these ladies does not go unnoticed, they all supported and cheered each other on all weekend long!

Here is an Overview from our riders on their experience-

“We really appreciated the opportunity for a clinic with Judge Amy Star from Arizona. She did an excellent job patiently working the riders through the challenging obstacles in the course she designed.

The water and both up and down banks are permitted working equitation obstacles, and the Campbell Valley location allowed us to include them this year. These elements added a new and exciting challenge to the Ease of Handling and Speed rounds. We were all glad to be on capable event horses that were confident on the uneven terrain.

Overall both the course difficulty level and the skills of the other competitors were higher this year, reflecting the growth of Working Eq in the region. Everyone rode really well, (even if we did get a bit lost sometimes) and brought home some prizes for our efforts. It was a wonderfull weekend, and thanks to PRDA for hosting our horses in thier comfy stalls.”
