Tonight, somewhere between the tomatoes and the fence line, a sparkle will assemble itself.

That's the actual term — a group of fireflies is called a sparkle, and it might be the most honest collective noun in the English language. They're not flies at all, but beetles, running the most efficient light show on Earth: nearly 100% of the energy in that glow becomes light, almost none of it heat. A lightbulb should be so lucky.

Every blinking pattern you see is a conversation — each species flashes its own code, males signaling from the air, females answering from the grass.

August is their grand finale, so the show outside your window is worth the price of standing still for five minutes.

What a day! Yesterday was the Calgary Stampede Cow Horse Spectacular, where Canada’s best compete for Stampede glory

We took Purdy Bossy for the Open Bridle class (typically for 8 year old finished horses, although he’s just 6).
It was a rough field of the best riders and horses and everyone was there to go for the prize.

John Swales and Hendrixx took the championship, and we congratulate them for another stellar performance. They are so hard to catch!

Purdy Bossy and Massimo GARLANDA took Reserve Champion and we could not be any more proud. This younger, talented trainer is just getting started and already competing at the very top. Congratulations Massimo, many thanks to Teagan, Kailynn and Mason for their support yesterday. It takes a lot of hands and hearts to make these wins possible.

Bar TT Cowhorse has just started to offer Purdy Bossy for stallion service and we hope for some Bossy Babies next year.

Boss will be taking a little time off before our next show. He sure earned it. What a horse!
