Congratulations Danielle! An incredible achievement for an incredible person!

Exceptional clinical expertise. Questionable filter. Award-winning dedication. ๐Ÿ†

A HUGE shout-out to our very own Danielle Bennett, recipient of the Volunteer Appreciation Award from Alberta Veterinary Technologist Association - โœจ

Danielle has been generously sharing her time, knowledge, experience and signature sarcasm with the Task Force for years. From surgery prep and anesthetic monitoring to patient recovery, clinic setup and pack-up โ€” sheโ€™s done a little bit of everything. And probably had something to say about all of it. ๐Ÿ’ฌ

Behind that quick wit is one heck of a dedicated veterinary professional who genuinely cares about the animals, the people and getting the job done right.

And her dedication doesnโ€™t stop with us! Danielle also contributes her experience and perspective to help prepare the next generation of veterinary professionals.

Weโ€™re lucky to have you in our corner, Danielle. Your commitment to animal care, your colleagues and the future of the veterinary profession deserves every bit of this recognition.

Congratulations! Weโ€™re incredibly proud of you. ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ’š

And donโ€™t worry. We wonโ€™t let this go to your head. ๐Ÿ˜น

๐Ÿพ๐Ÿ’™ Veterinary RVT Appreciation Month! ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿพ
This month, weโ€™re celebrating some of the incredible people who help keep our clinic running and our patients cared for, our Registered Veterinary Technologists (RVTs)!

๐Ÿฉบ What does an RVT do?
RVTs are highly trained veterinary professionals and an essential part of your petโ€™s medical team. Depending on the case, you may find them:
โ€ข Monitoring patients during anesthesia and surgery
โ€ข Collecting blood and running laboratory tests
โ€ข Taking X-rays
โ€ข Administering medications and treatments
โ€ข Providing nursing care to hospitalized and recovering patients
โ€ข Assisting veterinarians during procedures and emergencies
โ€ข Educating and supporting pet owners

But their jobs are so much more than a list of tasks. โค๏ธ

Theyโ€™re the ones offering an extra cuddle to a nervous patient, helping during a middle-of-the-night emergency, celebrating the happy moments and providing compassion through the difficult ones.

It takes skill, patience, teamwork and a very big heart to do what they do.

Please join us this week in giving a BIG thank you to our amazing RVTs! ๐Ÿฅฐ๐Ÿพ

๐Ÿ‘‡ Drop a ๐Ÿ’™, a thank you, or a special shoutout in the comments to help us show our team just how appreciated they are!

๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿพ World Mental Health Day โ€” A Reminder to Take Care of Each Other ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿ’š

Today is World Mental Health Day, and as we look ahead to one of our busiest seasons of the year, it feels like an important time for a little reminder: there's a person on both sides of every phone call, appointment and farm visit. โค๏ธ

๐Ÿ„ Calving season is just around the corner, which means long days and even longer nights for many of our local farmers and ranchers. It also means our veterinary team will soon be juggling an increase in emergencies, farm calls and patients needing our care, sometimes at all hours of the day and night.

During this busy season, we ask for a little extra patience, kindness and understanding. Our team works hard to care for every animal that needs us, and emergencies may occasionally mean schedules change or wait times are a little longer than usual.

And to our producers heading into calving season: don't forget to take care of yourselves, too. Check in with your neighbours, accept a helping hand, get some rest when you can, and remember that your well-being matters just as much as the work that needs to get done.

๐Ÿ’š Be kind to your veterinary team.
๐Ÿ’š Be kind to your neighbours.
๐Ÿ’š And don't forget to be kind to yourself.

Here's to supporting one another through another busy calving season. ๐Ÿ„๐Ÿพโค๏ธ

As the seasons change, a few simple precautions can help keep your animals healthy and happy this fall!

๐Ÿ„ 1. Watch for Mushrooms
Cooler, damp weather can bring out wild mushrooms. Some varieties are highly toxic and can cause severe illness or even be fatal if eaten. Keep curious pets away from areas where mushrooms are growing!

โ˜ ๏ธ 2. Store Rodent Poison Safely
As temperatures drop, mice and rats start looking for a warm place to stay. If you use rodent bait, make sure it is completely inaccessible to pets and livestock. Rodenticides can be extremely dangerous if swallowed.

๐ŸŒพ 3. Don't Forget Minerals
As autumn pastures begin to fade, nutritional gaps can develop. Providing appropriate loose minerals or mineral blocks can help support your livestock as forage quality changes. Not sure what your herd needs? Our team is happy to help!

๐Ÿ’ง 4. Beware of Blue-Green Algae
Warm weather can cause harmful blue-green algae (cyanobacteria) to grow in ponds and lakes. It can be extremely toxic to dogs, and even a small amount can cause serious illness. Avoid letting your dog swim in or drink from water that has visible algae, a green/blue film, or looks unusual.

๐Ÿงช 5. Keep Farm Chemicals Out of Reach
Herbicides, pesticides, fertilizers, and other farm chemicals can be toxic to animals if ingested or exposed to improperly. Products such as Roundup and other herbicides should always be stored securely, and pets and livestock should be kept away from treated areas according to the product label.

A little preparation now can help keep your animals healthy all season long! ๐Ÿถ๐Ÿฑ๐Ÿด๐Ÿฎ

๐Ÿงก National Day for Truth and Reconciliation ๐Ÿงก

Tomorrow, in recognition of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, both our Sundre and Olds locations will be closed.

As always, an on-call veterinarian will remain available for emergencies while our clinics are closed.

We take this time to honour the children, families, and communities affected by residential schools, and to reflect on the importance of truth, healing, and understanding.

Pioneer Veterinary Services is located on the traditional territories of the Indigenous peoples of Treaty 6, Treaty 7, and Mรฉtis Region 8. We recognize the deep history and ongoing presence of Indigenous peoples on this land, and we are grateful for the opportunity to live, learn, and work here.
