🚒🎨 Calling all young artists! Our Farm Fire Safety Colouring Contest is on now through October 13.

Pick up a colouring sheet at any Feeds’n Needs location, or print one from our website. Colour it in and return it to your local store by October 13. We’ll select one winner from each location, and their local store will contact them to arrange prize pickup!

While the kids get creative, take a few minutes to talk about fire safety as a family. Check that exits are clear, look over your fire safety equipment, and make a plan for how your family, farm team and animals will respond in an emergency.
Make sure everyone knows their role.

Fire prevention starts with a team and it’s never too early to bring the next generation into the conversation. 🐐❤️

🍂 : Turn Fall Cleanup into Garden Gold!

Fallen leaves, finished garden plants and end-of-season yard waste can help create nutrient-rich compost for next year’s garden.

For a healthy fall compost pile:
🍁 Mix “brown” materials like dry leaves, straw and small twigs with “green” materials such as vegetable scraps, grass clippings and healthy garden plants.
🌱 Chop or shred larger materials so they break down faster.
💧 Keep the pile damp like a wrung-out sponge—but not soaking wet.
🔄 Turn it occasionally to add airflow and support decomposition.
🚫 Avoid adding diseased plants, weeds that have gone to seed, meat, dairy or pet waste.

Save a bag of dry leaves beside your compost bin to layer with kitchen scraps throughout the winter. By spring, you’ll be well on your way to creating rich organic matter for healthier garden soil!

A stronger spring lawn starts with the work you put in this fall. 🌱🍂

Cooler temperatures, warm soil and seasonal rainfall create ideal conditions for Maritime lawns to recover from summer stress and develop stronger roots before winter.

Our latest blog covers the essential fall lawn care steps for homeowners across Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and PEI, including when to start and why timing matters.

Read the full guide and visit your local Feeds’n Needs for grass seed, fertilizer, lime and seasonal lawn care advice.
