And just like that, the summer flew by and Dock Diving is over for the season!

Thank you to everyone who came out to give Dock Diving a try, to the doggos that took to the water very fast and became pros, to the doggos that took some extra time gaining confidence to go for a swim off the ramp on their own, to the doggos that had no clue what we were asking of them but decided to trust us and learned how fun it is, to the doggos who were going for swims off the ramp to help recovery from injury/muscle loss, to the senior doggos that went for a leisurely swim for an activity easy on their joints, to the doggos that said “nah, this isn’t for me”, to the puppies who tried swimming for the first time, to the folks who always encourage my chaos and keep me smiling when I’m trying to figure out a new venture! And to my husband, Craig who is always so supportive of my crazy ideas and helps me put them to light, he is the absolute best. And to my own doggos, Raven and Rookie who have to tolerate listening to other dogs use the pool but have an absolute blast whenever they get a turn!

We had two dogs and handlers compete for the first time and they both walked away with titles at their very first competition this fall!

Cami and Raye competed for the first time at Aqua Terra’s final competition of the year in Stewiacke and came home with their Dock Master title with Raye jumping 23.10ft! Absolutely amazing job, team!🎉

Charmaine Noonan Pearce and Howie competed for the first time at Noteworthy Farms end of the year competition in Fredericton and came home with their Dock Junior title! Howie was a little bit hesitant when he first started Dock Diving, but once he figured the game out, there is no going back now!🎉

Absolutely amazing job!🥳 Great things are ahead for these two teams!

Thank you to Chris Higginbotham for coming out and sharing your knowledge and letting me hold your dogs, your crew are so amazing! Chris’s three dogs, Berserker, Thing, and Fever are all top dogs in the NADD association and are truly amazing to watch! The drive and power that his dogs have are a true joy to witness!

Thank you to DJ at Endless Pawsibilities Dog Training for learning about this sport with me and for introducing it to your clients. It’s always fun to cause some chaos with friends!

Fingers crossed that spring will be here before we know it and we can all see each other at the Dock!

Sometimes we need to take a little “paws”🐾

With everything going on right now in the world, I know many people are watching their budgets more closely and adjusting priorities. As a small business owner, I truly understand — and if you need to cancel or space out your dog’s grooming appointments, please know there is absolutely no judgment here. But frequently cancelling appointments can also leave your dogs mated and uncomfortable which can cause many health issues and a negative association with the grooming process for your dog.

If you’re looking for a way to keep your pup comfortable while stretching out time between visits, I’m happy to help you find a solution. One option I offer is what I call an “economy clip” — a shorter, low-maintenance haircut where the coat is taken down evenly (face, ears, body, and tail). This style can often be stretched to about 10–12 weeks with a quick nail trim/ ear pluck in between, compared to fluffier styles that need more frequent upkeep.

Some pet parents love this cut for how easy it is to manage at home, and it can also be a great option for dogs who aren’t big fans of grooming.

If you’re feeling the need to adjust your schedule or explore different options, please don’t hesitate to reach out. We can always make a plan that keeps your dog comfortable and cared for.

For anyone who needs help teaching their dog to be handled, this is the class for you!

Does your dog suddenly forget how to function when the nail clippers come out? 😅

Maybe they pull their paws away, fight brushing, hate having their ears touched, wiggle nonstop on the grooming table, or become stressed the second the vet starts handling them.

For a lot of dogs, these things don’t just get easier with time. They need to actually be taught how to feel comfortable with being handled.

That’s exactly what we’ll be working on in our Cooperative Care Foundations class. 🐾

We’ll build skills that can help with:
• Nail trims
• Brushing and grooming
• Paw, ear, face, and body handling
• Vet exams
• Wearing and removing equipment
• Being positioned or gently restrained for care
• Learning to stay calm and participate instead of struggling through it

The goal isn’t just to get the job done, it’s to help your dog understand what’s happening and feel safer during everyday care.

If you’ve ever thought, “My dog HATES having that done,” this class may be exactly what you need.

This is for dogs currently enrolled in dock classes or private sessions to practice your skills while taking turns with other teams! Megan will be present if people would like some beginner coaching, but an extra charge will apply.

All dogs must be able to handle being around other dogs and distractions, if your dog barks in a vehicle it must be left running with the windows up as to not distract other dogs practicing.

On Saturday we had our very first seminar for beginner Dock Diving here at Dog Gone Beautiful. Courtney Mellish came over from NS to have some fun, meet some new people/dogs and share her knowledge of the sport with us while watching and discussing each dog’s individual needs. This year has been alot of figuring this pool thing out, from fighting with water quality on Thursday after the rain and humidity, to panic cleaning so everything was safe and sparkling by Saturday. I couldn’t have done it without the help of DJ and Courtney, as we like to say “team work makes the dream work”. During the seminar we all had a great time while watching and working with some pretty amazing dogs and owners. Dock Diving is an interesting sport, it may look easy, but each dog progresses at their own speed, whether that’s building ramp confidence, building toy drive, figuring out what the heck we are asking of them, working on less hesitation, or ourselves needing to learn how to throw the toy properly for our dogs success! Thank you to everyone who came out and allowed their dog to work at their own pace, with positivity and fun, and for supporting each other, my business and my friend, Courtney. I couldn’t have asked for a better crew for our first seminar!
