Lecture time.
If you see a dog wearing an "in training vest" and a muzzle, what would your first instinct be?
Probably not to walk up and stick your hands in her face, and defenitley not to lecture her handler about how "labs dont need muzzles, because they're so friendly".
Fact is, every dog is an individual and biting is not a breed specific trait.
Some dogs may have a genetic pre disposition to be more likley to bite.
Some dogs may even learn that biting creates the space they are so desperately asking for because they are nervous.
Some dogs use biting as a way of controlling live stock. (Herding)
Others learn to control space and energy of those around them.
But the truth is, EVERY DOG CAN BITE! Not every dog will, but they can.
If you see a dog wearing a muzzle, dont assume they are a monster but also dont go up and start patting them and getting in their face. Ask questions, respect their space and if youre lucky they will come to you if they want to interact.
If you have a dog who needs a muzzle, for absolutley any reason, advocate for their space. Show them that they dont have to bite to feel safe because you can handle that situation for them.
A muzzled dog is not a bad dog. They are learning how to navigate a world that wasn't built for them. π
And a massive shout out to The Muzzle Movement for creating one the best basket muzzle I've seen in a long time ! The measurements are extremely accurate and the way they are built make them comfortable for the dog which is #1 ! They can pant. Drink and take food through the muzzle without having to take it off. Super light weight and durable ππ(also comes in pretty colors π)
