Today is National Make a Dog's Day, and we thought we'd share some of the ways we make sure our own pups (fosters AND the ones we've adopted) enjoy each and every day:

🐕 Early morning walks to watch the sunrise
🤫 Sneaky treats when dad isn't watching
💤 Letting them sleep in bed, even though they have their own
🎾 Throwing the tennis ball until we're both exhausted
💙 Endless hugs, kisses and snuggles
🧀 Cheese tax (but only sometimes!)
😴 Naps under a cozy blanket
🚗 Car rides with the windows down - and maybe a Pup Cup!
🐶 Telling them they're the best dog(s) around

The most important way we show our love? By providing them safe, loving homes where they can live out the rest of their lives - because every senior dog deserves a happy ending. 💖

Tell us how you make your dog's day in the comments below. 👇 Happy National Make a Dog's Day to each and every pup out there! 🥳

We wanted to extend a huge THANK YOU to everyone who stopped by our booth at Pet Valu Springbank over the weekend! 💙 We had SUCH a great time meeting everyone, especially the pups!

This was our second time visiting this location, and we'll definitely be returning! Not only were the customers amazing, but their staff was so welcoming and helpful.

A big shoutout to our amazing Ambassador Dogs: Beau, Ribeye and Charlie! 🐶 Did you know Ribeye went all out and dressed up for the occasion? He was a panda! 🐼

The long road was 100% worth the wait.

It was FINALLY a happy adoption day for our Rupert after some unexpected surprises along the way.

Rupert sailed through his vetting and did amazingly well for his neuter and dental too. We posted him for adoption once he was finally house trained (about 2 weeks post neuter) and collected applications for this very popular boy.

During our adoption process, Rupert began displaying some odd behaviors that lead us to a quick vet visit.

Diagnosis: focal seizures.

Over the next few days these mild (he remains aware) seizures that kinda just looked like he was wearing invisible dog boots for a few seconds continued so following vet advice, Rupert was placed on Keppra.

We contacted our shortlisted applicants to share this news and two of them declined to proceed further.

Lots of waiting, lots of conversations and wonderful applicants waited for us to give the all clear.

And then- he was ready to go.

Both of the applicants wanting to love Rupert are incredibly awesome people. It made my heart happy to know that there are people out there who just want to meet a dog where they are at and love them.

The other applicant- we will absolutely help them find their Happy's dog too. They are a truly wonderful person.

And for Rupert? He's got his own equally amazing people too.

A family just for him.

And he looks pretty proud about it all too.

Special thanks to our medical team and his foster home for such diligent care.

Thank you to Wendy Grandman for a very generous donation which provided funds for the unexpected medical bill we faced.

And to his new family- thanks for loving him lots. The perfect fit for Rupert.

Senior rescue certainly keeps you on your toes.

Happy adoption day.

Here comes not one, not two, but THREE Happily Ever After stories, courtesy of Meghan Butler, who's given three Happy's Place dogs loving homes - talk about INCREDIBLE! 🤩

Meghan shared with us updates on Caillou, Pearle and Seager, all of whom have been lucky enough to call her house their home. Each has such a unique personality, and we're so, so happy to hear they are doing well and having the time of their lives! 💙

While Caillou has since sadly passed, Meghan's email clearly shows he lived a fulfilled life with her, and we can't thank her enough for giving him the home he so rightfully deserved. Pearle and Seager are still with her, and from the looks of it, they are living their best lives!

Here are Meghan's updates about the trio:

"Caillou (Sh*tzu/Havanese):

Caillou was our first foster fail and we miss him deeply. He passed away April 17, 2025, after 4.5 years together. He was as sweet as they come and our very first foster dog.

He was given up due to crying at night for one week, which we believe was the start of the signs of his dementia. With love and predictability, Caillou stopped crying at night and enjoyed being around his people and his animal brother and sisters. He ate everything he could get his little mouth on and hated baths, lol, but we loved him just the same!

Pearle (Maltese mix):

Pearle came to us as a hot mess of neglect, missing most of her hair and covered in yeast. While she is remains a ye**ty beasty, it’s easily managed through medicated baths and wipes.

Pearle is everyone’s favourite and all [of] the kids we know always ask if she can come over when we visit (and, of course, she does). Pearle is the laziest dog that ever lived. She prefers to be carried everywhere - in fact, she demands it. Granted, she is so tiny and even a small twig in her way will have her fall over in the most dramatic fashion possible.

You can find Pearle attached to any person's side, but her #1 choice is her dad (because mum washes her and she holds that against her). But, if dad isn’t around, mum's the next best choice, and, if not her, then another dog or a cat will do. 🙂

Seager (Alaskan Husky):

[Seager] just celebrated one year with us about a month ago. He has a beautiful spirit and is kindness exemplified. He will share anything and everything with anyone and loves to play HARD!

Seager is soulmates with our former Mexican street dog, Sanford, and you can find them walking in lock step on their joint leash or biting each other's ears and legs and jumping on each other for hours.

Seager loves to run, chase and play with any dog friend that comes to visit. He loves belly rubs and, if he trusts you, will gladly flop on his back, wriggle around and stare at you until you comply."

The smiles we had on our faces reading this were HUGE! 🥹❤️ Thank you, Meghan, for sharing this update with us! We hope Pearle stops holding her baths against you (or, at least, realizes they are a necessary "evil"). 😂

✨ Have you given a Happy's Place dog their happily ever after? Send an email with their story to [email protected] and we'll feature them (and you!) on our social media - don't forget to include pictures!

Meet Angele ❤️- adorable right!

This pint sized cutie came into our care recently in need of a second chance and a place who is full of community who knows that senior dogs are simply the BEST!

So of course, that's where we come in!

Angele was actually discovered as a stray several weeks back when she was found to be on the run in a large forest area. Guessed by the shelter to be abandoned, Angele took weeks to secure and it is completely amazing that she survived out there for as long as she did.

Angele was then up for adoption in shelter but sadly at the last minute they changed their mind due to her age 😢.

Around here we know that 9 years old makes Angele a shining star just like the rest of our senior dogs.

The girl we know- she loves snuggles and smooches and is an all around sweet gal.

And when ready to adopt, she's gonna make someone lucky- the very best family pet.

Angele is not accepting applications quite yet- she's got some vetting to catch up on and we'll get to know her a bit better too.

Please give a warm welcome to this wee lady- welcome to Happy's Place Angele ❤️.

Some dogs walk into your home, and before you know it, they've walked straight into your heart. For Good!

We’re going to reintroduce you to Louis, formerly known as the one you might remember called T**i. Louis- he’s a lucky boy. His foster family- they’ve turned into a forever family. Although I personally think it’s safe to say that they were completely smitten from the moment he arrived through their doors.

With his dental done and his neuter complete, this little man is officially right where he belongs — HOME to stay!

Not a foster fail. An “and Louis, he lived happily ever after”. Because you were home, even before you knew it! Happy adoption day Louis.

Looking to adopt your own Happy’s Place dog- more senior dogs coming your way- very soon!

Guess what, we're officially ONE WEEK AWAY from the start of our 2026 Bark & Bid Auction! 🎉 Can you believe it?!?! 🤯

You've likely seen the business highlights we've been posting over the past month, so you have an inkling of what's in store. But just wait until you see the actual items up for bidding! 🤩

Over the next week, we'll be posting additional highlights, as well as a walkthrough of the auction website. 🖥️ We've adopted a different platform this year, so we wanted to make sure everyone knows how to navigate it!

Oh, and don't worry. We'll post a reminder the day before the auction starts!

Have any questions ahead of the auction starting? 🤔 Feel free to DM us or send an email to [email protected]. We'll be happy to help.

Meet Poe — our wee diamond in the rough. (side note: I think she is A-DOR-A-BLE)

Sweet little Poe might not be looking or feeling her very best just yet, but oh my… that teeny bow in her very small amount of hair lol! Pretty as a princess, with as much of the royal treatment as she needs.

Poe was found as yet another unclaimed stray, and sadly, no one came looking for her. When we were asked to welcome her into rescue, we knew this little girl needed us right away.

Her skin infected, her teeth needing attention, and of course she still needs to be spayed. There’s work to be done, especially when it comes to getting her skin healthy and comfortable again. Cue the multiple bubble baths and spa days!

But underneath it all? The sweetest little soul.

Poe deserves all the goodness in the world and she’s got a bunch of s***k to her step. Thanks to foster care, she’s really learning what it means to be loved and cared for.

I am so grateful that we can say yes to dogs like Poe. My favourites are the ones who arrive needing someone willing to see the beauty in them before the rest of the world sometimes sees it, too.

Just wait- one very special glow-up coming right up!
