Animal Care Centre of Strathmore We are a veterinary hospital located 2km West of Strathmore, Alberta on the North side of the TransCanada Highway on RR 254.

The Animal Care Centre of Strathmore is a 60% companion animal and 40% large animal veterinary clinic that opened in March of 2007. We have up to date technology and amazing staff that enables us to provide your animal with superior and quality veterinary care. Please feel free to stop in for a visit or call us at 403-901-1800. 𝐖𝐚𝐫𝐦 𝐄𝐧𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬, 𝐂𝐨𝐳𝐲 𝐊𝐢𝐭𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬!

As the temperatures drop, outdoor and community cats may look for a warm, sheltered spot to escape the cold — including under your car’s hood or inside the engine compartment!

Before starting your engine, give your hood a loud thump and take a moment to check around your vehicle. This simple step could give a chilly kitty the chance to escape and prevent a serious injury.

𝐅𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝 𝐚 𝐤𝐢𝐭𝐭𝐲 𝐡𝐢𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐢𝐧 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐞?
𝐃𝐎𝐍’𝐓 𝐒𝐓𝐀𝐑𝐓 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐂𝐀𝐑! Turn off the engine and give the cat some time to come out on its own. If they won’t budge, 𝐃𝐎𝐍’𝐓 𝐒𝐓𝐀𝐑𝐓 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐂𝐀𝐑! try to pull them out yourself — especially if they are frightened or caught in the engine. Contact a local animal rescue, or animal control for help.

A few seconds of checking could make all the difference. Thump your hood. Save a kitty.

FOUND :: This handsome, shy guy was brought to us as he was wandering with his harness and leash outside of Carseland. He has no identification and is intact.

WINTER IS COMING! Is Your Horse Ready?

Well, Alberta gave us our first taste of winter this weekend! If you haven’t started preparing your horses for the colder months, now’s the time!

A little preparation goes a long way in keeping your equine friends happy, healthy, and comfortable all winter long.

• Blankets & Shelter: Keep them dry and protected from wind and snow.
• Hay & Nutrition: Stock up on good-quality forage to help keep them warm.
• Water: Prevent freezing and ensure access to fresh water.
• Dental Care: Make sure they can chew and utilize their winter forage properly.
• Hoof Care: Keep up with regular farrier visits.
• Body Condition: Check regularly—winter coats can hide weight loss!

Pro tip: A fall wellness check is a great way to make sure your horse is ready for the season ahead!

𝐓𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐤𝐬𝐠𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐓𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐬: 𝐊𝐞𝐞𝐩 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐅𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐭 𝐎𝐟𝐟 𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐏𝐞𝐭’𝐬 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐞!

Thanksgiving is all about good food, family, and gathering together — but some of our favourite holiday foods can be dangerous for our pets!
Keep these common hazards away from curious noses:

- 𝐅𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐲 𝐟𝐨𝐨𝐝𝐬 & 𝐭𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐬𝐜𝐫𝐚𝐩𝐬 – Can cause stomach upset and potentially pancreatitis.
- 𝐎𝐧𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬, 𝐠𝐚𝐫𝐥𝐢𝐜 & 𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐨𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬 – Can be toxic to dogs and cats.
- 𝐆𝐫𝐚𝐩𝐞𝐬 & 𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐬 – Even small amounts can be dangerous for dogs.
- 𝐂𝐡𝐨𝐜𝐨𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐞 & 𝐝𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐭𝐬 – Chocolate and sugar-free treats containing xylitol can be toxic.
- 𝐑𝐚𝐰 𝐝𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡 – Yeast dough can expand in the stomach and cause serious problems.
- 𝐓𝐮𝐫𝐤𝐞𝐲 𝐛𝐨𝐧𝐞𝐬 – Cooked bones can splinter and cause choking or intestinal injuries.
- 𝐃𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 & 𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐬 – Curious pets may chew on seasonal decorations or plants that can cause illness.

Pet-friendly tip: If you want your furry family member to join the feast, set aside a small portion of plain, cooked turkey with no seasoning, bones, or skin.
And remember — if your pet gets into something they shouldn’t, don’t wait for symptoms to appear. Contact your veterinarian for advice.

🧡 National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

Today, September 30, we pause to remember the Indigenous children who were taken from their families and forced to attend residential schools. We honour Survivors, their families, and communities, while recognizing the lasting impacts of this history.

Why do we wear orange? 🧡

Orange Shirt Day was inspired by Phyllis Webstad, a residential school Survivor, whose new orange shirt was taken from her when she arrived at residential school. Her story has become a powerful reminder that Every Child Matters.

Today is a time to listen, learn, remember, and reflect. Truth and Reconciliation is an ongoing responsibility, and we all have a role to play in building a future rooted in respect, understanding, and meaningful relationships.
