Some words of encouragement and some loving accountability in the last one. 😊

If you’re struggling with your dog right now, you’re not alone. Every well-trained dog was once the dog pulling on the leash, ignoring recalls, losing their mind over distractions, or driving their owner slightly crazy.

Progress isn’t linear.

Keep showing up. Keep learning. Keep being fair and consistent.

And yes, if the squirrels or other people & dogs are winning... you’ve got some work to do and we’re here to teach, help & support you in any way we can. ❤️

We spent several minutes tonight simply practicing neutrality around the cows. 🐄🐾

No obedience or forced eye contact needed at this level of training.

Just calmly observing the world without becoming overwhelmed, overexcited or reactive to it.

Kya was free to watch them, smell them, stand if she wanted to & process the environment and simply exist around them while remaining emotionally regulated and thoughtful.

That matters because real-life training is not about pretending distractions don’t exist. It’s about teaching dogs how to experience the world calmly without feeling the need to react to everything around them.

That kind of stability, self-control and clear-headedness carries over into everyday life far more than people realize.

Most dogs with any sort of prey drive, guarding instinct, herding instinct, or environmental sensitivity would feel compelled to react to something like a horse and buggy going past the property.

Many would absolutely want to chase, bark, patrol, or investigate causing catastrophic results if they bite. Kya absolutely would try and run out there losing her mind when I first got her. 🏎️

Neutrality like this doesn’t just “happen.” It’s our job as owners to teach dogs how to safely exist in the world around them through structure, training, guidance, and follow-through.

The goal is to teach them that not every child, cyclist, dirt bike, car, dog, or horse passing the property requires a response from you. 🛑

To me training isn’t optional, it’s an obligation as a good neighbour. No one should be afraid to go by my driveway.

A good trainer is cheaper than building a fence and about the same as installing an e-fence. But training solves way more problems than just staying on the property. 😃
