Position Overview
We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Trail Guide to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for assisting with daily horse care, as well as guiding customers on trail rides. This position is ideal for someone who loves working with horses and people, enjoys the outdoors, and has a strong commitment to animal welfare.
Key Responsibilities
Horse Care & Management
Feed, water, and groom operation horses on a daily schedule
Maintain clean and organized tack area and feed room
Exercise horses to ensure their physical and mental well-being
Monitor horse health, administer basic first aid, and coordinate veterinary visits when needed
Perform tack cleaning and maintenance to ensure equipment is always in safe working order
Trail Guide Duties
Lead customers on guided trail rides through the Eldred King Woodlands tract of the York Regional Forest
Provide clear instructions on horse handling and safety to riders of varying skill levels
Ensure a welcoming, positive, and educational experience for all guests
Oversee rider safety and follow all trail protocols and regulations
Offer insights about local flora, fauna, and trail landmarks during rides
Additional Responsibilities
Coordinate with the management team to implement improvements for horse care and customer experiences
Qualifications
Equine Experience: 1+ years of experience with horse care (feeding, grooming, exercising)
Riding Skills: 3+ years of riding experience, able to demonstrate and describe proper riding technique to guests
Customer Service: Prior experience in a customer-facing role, ideally in an outdoor or recreational environment
Safety & First Aid: Certification in Standard First Aid/CPR, certification in Equine First Aid a plus
Physical Fitness: Capable of handling the physical demands of stable work, including lifting bales of hay, lifting bags of feed, and extended periods on horseback
Driver’s License: Valid driver’s license (and reliable transportation) preferred

Positive Attitude: Approaches challenges with a can-do spirit and enthusiasm for sharing the joy of riding with others
