Do you guys remember Aspen? It’s been quite a while since I posted an update on this little rescue bun, who I foster for Precious Rabbits Rescue and Sanctuary Society

Today is Aspen’s 1st birthday, and I’ve had a few people asking me about him lately, so I thought today was the perfect time to do a little update!

Aspen first came into the rescue as a 6 week old stray bunny in September of last year. He was so tiny at the time that he fit perfectly into the palm of my hands.

Initially we had believed Aspen was a little girl, but we discovered when we took him in for a spay surgery that he would actually be undergoing a neuter! 😂 This just goes to show how easily young bunnies can be miss-sexed.

Aspen is a truly unique and sweet little guy. He loves all his bunny neighbours (especially my big girl Daisy), he devours apple sticks and willow balls, and he loves to get pets and attention - but only if that attention comes from me.

Aspen will tolerate my husband, as long as he has a treat to give, but he’s not allowed step foot in his enclosure. Aspen feels that every other human on earth is to be feared, to the point where he will go into a panic, if any person other than me enters his environment.

Due to Aspen’s high level of anxiety around people, it has been decided that he will remain here with me as a permanent foster. He is very happy and content here, and we all feel it is in his best interest to remain here, where he is most comfortable.

Happy 1st birthday Aspen! 🐰🎂🥳

CAN YOU FEED A BUNNY TOO MANY GREENS? 🤔

The answer is Yes! Feeding too many greens to your bunny can disrupt their very delicate GI system, and can cause gas build up and bloating.

Instead of thinking of their servings of greens as a meal, try thinking of these servings as a light snack.

Bunnies should ideally be grazing on their hay throughout the day, and the more hay they eat, the better! Feeding bunnies small portions of greens, rather than large meal size portions, can help support their overall gut health and encourage them to graze on their hay more often.

If you’re not sure how much is too much, we encourage you to talk with your vet. Portion size can sometimes depend on your bunny, their age, their weight, and their personal tolerance for greens, in addition to other factors. Some bunnies can only tolerate a tiny bit of greens, while others aren’t able to tolerate any greens in their diet at all.
