Rydyn High Ranch

Rydyn High Ranch Rydyn High Ranch is the home of the Storey family, established in 2007 and moved over a few locations Please stay tuned through our changes!

Our ranch has undergone a significant face lift this summer. We sold our beautiful quarter in Lacombe County, Alberta and packed up 18 trailer loads of stuff and animals and relocated to just shy of 1100 acres outside of Hixon, BC. As if that wasn't enough, we sold our stud and all but one broodmare and bought 2 purebred Bernese Mountain dogs. Now that we are settled in BC, we have also incorporat

ed our farm. Rydyn High Ranch, Triple S Canine Ventures and Hearts and Hooves Holistic Healing are all divisions of the new corporation. Currently we have 17 quarter horses, a mini pony, a mini donkey, a second donkey, 2 berners, 1 golden retriever/springer spaniel, an ancient, but much loved beagle/basset and 2 cats. Going forward, Rydyn High will be doing select breedings only and raising and training working ranch style horses. We will be adding a commercial cattle herd to our venture this fall as well which is Josh's long anticipated dream. We really appreciate everyone who supports us.

Today, Rydyn High Ranch, BC, is no more. We have officially sold the land and are enjoying acreage life in Central Alberta. The Cariboo presented us with challenges and lessons, the like of which we had never experienced before. As with all things, there were also great times and opportunities that presented themselves. I am not even a little bit sorry that we have sold out and moved back home, right into the arms of friends and family, who have welcomed us in as though we had never left. I will always have a soft spot in my heart for the beautiful land, the forest, and the wonderful people we met and became friends with. I will be grateful for the opportunity I had both for a year off a day job to heal after my traumatic brain injury and for the move to employment at TD. I will also be grateful that we tried something we had always talked about, even though it never worked out the way we planned.

We wish the new owners all the best and hope they are able to find peace, contentment and happiness on the property.

Not sure if I will disable this page or just change it to Rydyn High Acres. Stay tuned. And for any who want to come see us at our beautiful new home, shoot us a message here or on our personal pages; we would love to hear from you!

The Golden Globes decided to go "meatless" this year to "fight climate change" and "promote sustainability." Livestock represents less than 5% of ghg emissions in the USA (low ghg impact)! These celebrities may have flown to the awards ceremony in private jets (extremely high ghg impact), which would dwarf any environmental benefit from avoiding meat for one meal. The meatless meal was also likely brought in from far away and likely had far more of a negative ghg impact than an average consumer's typical meal of meat. The expensive clothes they were wearing, buildings and materials used to produce the show, and overall excessive lifestyles all contribute to emissions far more than a meal containing meat. And yet, "meat" is what they chose as their object of reducing emissions. Want to "fight climate change?" Start with transportation, industry, and energy (80 percent of ghg emissions in USA) don't demonize some of the greatest foods in America!

To learn more about the benefits of livestock and the ability they have to sequester carbon and reduce ghg emissions, please read this FB post from a few months back: https://www.facebook.com/PetersonFarmBros/posts/2481953178493524?__xts__%5B0%5D=68.ARA6ljBfJagb99kAS45SRIM9YvkRKviM37MQDiBcR4KDDQU1z3cWB3es5JcMVsNJJkWne2UW328YYvpT28wzM11sF4tqwanieSJJ6fgL4wJxYcZR9ROrh1pQX3l8Yqt7AMwRedPEtIDPHa3HZe9Vu6GU-8-bDIeput2mQpgnqcUoOSgySLn7fNabe9iLo37CCUouGfnKvFFyuOe3nxRO2yAe0xbpaXs1heAVHuhIdREhvBbV6Nu9Hq5CSdmmWn8ZTy03c1NyWE3LkLg9TocMXX_G-MQcgx1u9K527hRFeTsDprLzxz6ZePwqc1EPzEUdKUpJka4fWD0M5hRCLD9exmyblg&__tn__=K-R

What is wrong with this picture?
Answer: Nothing!

Each winter we get many calls from people concerned after seeing horses with snow on their backs. If you see snow building up on a horse’s back or rump, you are looking at proof that body heat is not escaping through the hair to melt the snow, and their coat is keeping them properly insulated. Also, the best way for a horse to stay warm is by eating! You can also see in this photo that the horse has access to a shelter, but is choosing to stay out in the snow and eat 🙂

Starting the hunt for a buyer today. Possession no earlier than July 2020 preferred. If you know of a good realtor that has experience with farms and ranches, we are possibly looking for someone. If you know someone who would be interested in the property and we don’t need to get a realtor, we would be happy to give a referral fee if it results in a sale. 1069 acres at max (still not sure if we may keep some), 3 bedroom, 2 bath, 2004 modular on a concrete crawl space, 2nd smaller, almost finished residence with 2 bedrooms and 1 bathroom, pasture, hay, trees, springs, outbuildings. Beautiful location within 1/2 hour of Quesnel and an hour of PG, nearest neighbour is 4kms away. Road is well maintained in winter as it is a bus route.

That’s ok, Nevada, we didn’t like our new fence around this pen anyhow! 🤦🏻‍♀️
