A city rich in culture, we honour tradition while embracing eclectic sophistication. When in St. John’s, you hear your fair share of tall tales and yarns, but that’s not all. As you walk through the winding alleyways of our vibrant downtown, you’ll encounter fashionistas, chefs, artists, musicians, and more. Thirsting for adventure? It’s easily quenched by skirting the dramatic coastline on foot or enjoying a day on a boat where you may have close encounters with humpback whales, puffins, and icebergs! Beautiful vistas, unique culinary pleasures, and unique architecture are just tiny slices of an urban experience that will feel like no other. But it’s the colourful characters who are the most memorable, in a place where strangers quickly become friends, and the local vernacular has you smiling and scratching your head all at once. Big news for St. John's!

St. John's International Airport has just announced that United Airlines is bringing back seasonal non-stop service between St. John's and Newark Liberty International Airport, connecting our region to the New York area for the first time since 2016.

The route will operate daily from June through September 2027, opening up easier access for guests from the eastern U.S and seamless onward connections through United's global network.

As our CEO, Paul Buggé, shared, audiences are already discovering Newfoundland and Labrador through stories like Come From Away and the latest Netflix series Below, and this connection makes it even easier to turn that interest into a visit.

This is an exciting milestone for our destination, and we can't wait to welcome more guests to St. John's.

Behind the Destination: DoubleTree by Hilton St. John's Harbourview 🌅

Destination St. John's is proud to shine a light on the incredible partners we value so deeply. It is all of us working together that makes our destination truly special.

Today we are highlighting the DoubleTree by Hilton St. John's Harbourview, perched on Hill O'Chips with the harbour as its backdrop. Just one kilometre from both downtown and Quidi Vidi, the hotel puts guests within easy reach of the city's restaurants, history, and waterfront while offering a modern, comfortable home base.

Guests can settle in with free WiFi, a fitness centre, a business centre, concierge service, and pet friendly rooms, with secure covered parking on site. Downstairs, The Little Sparo brings a simple Italian approach to the table, with naturally leavened bread and pizza and homemade pasta prepared with care. Meeting rooms and room blocks for groups make the property a natural fit for gatherings too.

It's a great example of how our accommodation partners give guests a place to rest, refuel, and take in the harbour views that make St. John's so memorable.

Be Our Guest is back, and this year the table is bigger.

Destination St. John's is teaming up with Go Western Newfoundland, Adventure Central Newfoundland, and Legendary Coasts of Eastern Newfoundland to bring Be Our Guest to restaurants across the island this November.

All month long, participating restaurants will serve specially curated prix fixe menus at two price points:

$39 for an appetizer, main, and drink
$59 for an appetizer, main, and dessert

Plus, when you order from the Be Our Guest menu, you’ll be entered into a draw for a chance to win a meal for two and one night’s stay in each of the four participating regions.

Stay tuned for the full list of participating restaurants. Until then, start thinking about who your November dinner date will be.

Behind the Destination: Mary Brown's Centre 🎤🏒

Destination St. John's is proud to shine a light on the incredible partners we value so deeply. It is all of us working together that makes our destination truly special.

Today we are highlighting Mary Brown’s Centre, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. Open since 2001 and previously known as Mile One, the Centre has spent a quarter century as the city’s home for live entertainment, bringing a full calendar of events to the stage, with comedy, holiday concerts, and figure skating spectacles on the schedule this season, including Jimmy Carr, Christmas with Johnny Reid, and Stars on Ice.

The Centre is also home to the Newfoundland Rogues and the Newfoundland Regiment, giving guests the chance to cheer alongside a passionate local crowd. Public ice skating and spaces available to book for events round out an experience that brings people together under one roof.

It’s a strong example of how our destination’s venues give guests a reason to plan a night out, and to extend their stay to take in everything downtown has to offer.
