We feel it’s important to provide some clarification, as there are always two sides to a situation, and this review does not accurately reflect what happened.

When this dog arrived, he was severely matted. We spent over an hour working with him and trying to gain his trust before proceeding. We were able to shave his body, but when we attempted to work around his legs, he became extremely overwhelmed and increasingly aggressive. At that point, continuing the groom was becoming unsafe for both the dog and our groomers.

His owner’s daughter came back to help, hoping that having someone he knew nearby would help settle him. Unfortunately, she was unable to get close to him either, and he attempted to bite her. She became understandably upset and was crying because she could see how stressed her dog was.

As professionals, we felt the safest and kindest decision was to stop rather than push him further. We suggested giving him a couple of days to decompress and then trying again. We explained that, because of the severity of the matting and his reaction to grooming, it might take one or two sessions to safely complete the groom.

We also discussed that if we continued to be unable to safely groom him, medication to help him remain calm might be necessary. We were willing to try working with him under those circumstances. If that still wasn’t successful, we explained that the safest option may ultimately be for a veterinarian to sedate him and have him shaved there.

We charged $40 for the time spent working with the dog, and explained that the remainder would only be charged if we were able to completely finish the groom. We spent approximately an hour and a half working with the dog and his owner, and we never received the $40 payment.

We understand that we cannot make every client happy, and we don’t expect every grooming experience to go perfectly. However, our priority will always be the safety and well-being of the dog, as well as the safety of our groomers.

A severely matted dog cannot be rushed, and an extremely stressed or aggressive dog should never be pushed simply to finish a groom. We would much rather stop, give the dog time to decompress, and find a safer solution than risk the dog being injured or someone being bitten.

We truly care about the dogs in our care and always do our best to handle difficult situations professionally, patiently, and with the animal’s best interest in mind.

Friendly Reminder 🐾

Just a reminder that the construction at the lights coming into Airport Heights is causing quite a bit of traffic and delays.

We completely understand if you get stuck in traffic! If possible, we recommend leaving a little earlier than you normally would to get here. We don’t mind at all if you arrive early. 😊

If you do end up being late, that’s okay too! We just ask that everyone please have a little patience and understanding, as grooming appointments may be thrown off for the next little while because of the delays.

Junior handling is more than simply teaching youth how to present a dog in the ring. It is a structured program designed to develop well-rounded individuals within the sport of dogs. The benefits span skill development, personal growth and long term engagement in the dog community. In particular, junior handling helps build confidence, composure, and communication skills. The program teaches responsibility, patience, and a deeper understanding of animal welfare. Many junior handlers go on to pursue meaningful careers in the animal industry as veterinarian technicians, veterinarians, groomers, breeders, trainers, etc.

We understand this may be inconvenient for some, but our holiday dates have been posted for over 10 months to give everyone plenty of notice.

To help ensure you get the appointments you need, we highly recommend pre-booking 3–4 appointments at a time, or you can even booking your year’s appointments in advance. We also keep a cancellation list and are always happy to contact clients if an earlier appointment becomes available.

We know not everyone is thrilled when we’re away, but as a small family-run business, we also need time to rest, recharge, and spend time with our family. We truly appreciate your understanding, patience, and continued support. ❤️

One of the hardest conversations we have as groomers is explaining why we can’t simply brush out matting.

Please know that when we recommend shaving a matted coat, it’s never because we’re taking the easy way out. It’s because we’re putting your dog’s comfort, health, and safety first.

Matting is much more than a few tangles. When a coat becomes heavily matted, the hair tightens against the skin like a blanket that continues to shrink. It restricts airflow, traps moisture, dirt, and bacteria, and can cause irritation, hot spots, bruising, and even skin infections.

Many pet parents don’t realize that the skin underneath a matted coat is often extremely fragile. It can become dry, dehydrated, inflamed, and sensitive from being covered and unable to breathe properly. Sometimes we don’t know the condition of the skin until the mats are removed.

What makes this especially difficult is that dematting is not a painless process. Every brush stroke pulls on the skin. Every tug can cause discomfort. For a severely matted dog, hours of brushing isn’t kindness, it’s often painful and stressful.
Even shaving a matted dog requires incredible care. The mats are attached tightly to the skin, and removing them can still create pulling and discomfort. The risk of nicks, cuts, bruising, and skin irritation increases significantly because we are often working with skin we cannot fully see beneath the matting.

As groomers, we never enjoy sending a dog home shorter than their family hoped for. We know how disappointing it can be to lose that fluffy coat you’ve been growing out. But our job is not just to make dogs look beautiful, it’s to advocate for their well being.
When we recommend a fresh start, it comes from compassion, not judgment.

We understand that life gets busy. Brushing can be challenging. Dogs can be wiggly. Matting can happen faster than many people realize.

Our goal is never to shame pet parents. Our goal is to help educate, support, and create a maintenance plan that keeps your dog comfortable, healthy, and mat free moving forward.
Because at the end of the day, your dog’s comfort will always matter more than their haircut.
