So you’ve brought a new puppy home… now what?

There is tons of information out there and it’s hard to figure out what you should and should not be doing.

This post is a helpful guideline to point you in the right direction.

Give yourself some grace while you and your puppy are trying to learn the new routine.

This is a crucial learning stage in their life. It’s important you make the most of it by socializing them and desensitizing them to lots of new things in safe and controlled ways.

A client recently asked me how I brush Kanes teeth.

Short answer, I dont!

Although Kane is very good about me handling him and would let me manually brush his teeth if I needed to, there is another much easier and more enjoyable way to clean them without me needing to get all up in his mouth!

Raw meaty bones!

While your dog eats the RMB it scrapes the buildup on their teeth, leaving their teeth cleaner without the need for brushing. It’s also a tasty treat that provides some mental enrichment.

Not all RMB are the same though and it’s important you think about which one may be best for your pup.

I usually recommend neck bones as there is lots of cartilage and softer bones that is safer for chewing but will still scrape the teeth.

Depending on your dog you might have to find other bones that would better suit their size or diet plan.

RMB can be found at your local pet store or butcher shop

Always supervise your dog while they are chewing for safety.
