Beyond the Trail - The Horsemanship Experience

At Epona’s Acres, we believe a truly meaningful riding experience begins long before you head down the trail.

Beyond the Trail is a unique lesson program designed for riders who want more than simply sitting in the saddle. In these small, personalized sessions, participants learn the foundations of horsemanship while developing a genuine connection with the horse they ride.

Each session begins on the ground, where riders learn essential horse care and handling skills such as grooming, tacking up, and basic groundwork. Participants will also be introduced to horse–human communication and how to read and respond to a horse’s body language.

From there, riders move into the saddle to develop practical riding skills in a supportive environment. Lessons take place in the arena and on our mountain trail course, helping riders build balance, confidence, and control before venturing onto the trails.

Because of the intimate nature of this program, sessions are limited to a maximum of two riders, ensuring individualized attention and meaningful time with the horses.

This is not just a trail ride - it’s an opportunity to learn, connect, and grow as a rider while building a true partnership with the horse.

• Grooming and horse care
• Learning to tack up
• Horse-human communication basics
• Groundwork and handling skills
• Arena riding instruction
• Practice on our mountain trail course
• Small group learning (maximum 2 riders)

Whether you’re brand new to horses or looking to deepen your understanding, Beyond the Trail offers a thoughtful and rewarding way to experience riding.

We are excited to announce new programs starting this spring. First up - Tiny Trotters!

Tiny Trotters - Early Horse Experience for Little Riders (Ages 5 & Under)

Tiny Trotters is a fun and welcoming program designed especially for our youngest horse lovers. This program gives children 5 and under the opportunity to be gently introduced to horses in a safe, supportive, and hands-on environment.

During each session, children will have the chance to meet the horses, learn basic horse care, and participate in simple grooming and riding experiences with guidance and support. Our goal is to help little ones build confidence, comfort, and connection with horses while enjoying time outdoors at the farm.

To keep things relaxed and age-appropriate, we also provide colouring activities and games, allowing kids to take breaks and explore at their own pace.

Program Details
Ages: 5 years and under
When: Friday mornings
Time: 10:00 AM – 11:30 AM
Start Date: Beginning in April
Cost: $25 per child per session

Tiny Trotters is a wonderful way for young children to experience horses for the first time, develop confidence, and enjoy a playful morning at the farm.

Our summer camp dates are LIVE!

This isn’t just riding camp.
It’s learning how to exist in the space with a horse.
How to build trust.
How to communicate without force.
How to lead with calm, clear energy.

Our camps are all about connection - to horses, to nature, and to self. Kids will learn horsemanship, grooming, groundwork, riding skills, and what it truly means to partner with a horse.
