Keep your furry family members safe as temperatures rise! ☀️🐾
Heat stroke is a serious and potentially life-threatening emergency for pets, but it is entirely preventable. Our team at Babine Animal Hospital wants to make sure you know the signs and how to keep your pets cool:
🔹 Keep pets cool: Ensure they have access to air conditioning and plenty of indoor/outdoor shade.
🔹 Fresh, cool water: Always provide plenty of water and check it frequently.
🔹 Never leave them in cars: Parked cars can reach dangerous temperatures in minutes—even with the windows cracked. Leave pets at home instead!
🔹 Walk smart: Avoid peak midday heat. Walk in the early morning or late evening, and check the pavement with your hand (if it's too hot for you, it's too hot for their paws).
🔹 Know the signs: Watch out for excessive panting, heavy salivation, lethargy, or a loss of balance and unsteadiness.
If you suspect your pet is suffering from heat stress, move them to a cool area, offer fresh water, and contact a veterinarian immediately.
