🦴🌿 When a game of fetch goes a little too far!

This pup came in with a piece of stick lodged between the teeth and stuck against the upper hard palate. 😬 Thankfully, we were able to safely remove it and get this happy pup back to normal!

A good reminder that sticks can cause mouth injuries, lodged foreign bodies, and other complications—so keep an eye out for anything unusual after a game of fetch. 🐶❤️

🧡 We’re closed on September 30th in recognition of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

It is a day to honour residential school Survivors, remember the children who never returned home, and reflect on the ongoing impacts of the residential school system on Indigenous communities.

September 30th is also Orange Shirt Day, inspired by residential school Survivor Phyllis Webstad and her story of having her orange shirt taken from her on her first day at residential school.

Today, we encourage our community to listen, learn, reflect, and take meaningful steps toward reconciliation.

🧡 Every Child Matters.

We’ll reopen Thursday, October 1st at 10 A.M.

🔬 What are we seeing under the microscope?

This cytology sample shows degenerative neutrophils, along with red blood cells and bacteria. 🧫🐾

So, what does that mean?

Neutrophils are white blood cells that play an important role in the body’s immune response. When they become degenerative, it can indicate that bacteria are present and producing toxins that damage cells.

In this sample, we can also see bacteria alongside the degenerative neutrophils, which can be an important clue when assessing an infection.

Cytology is a quick, useful diagnostic tool that lets us examine cells and other microscopic findings directly from a sample—helping our veterinary team better understand what’s happening and determine the most appropriate treatment. 🩺🔬

👀 Did you guess it correctly? Let us know in the comments!

Microscopic images like this are just one of the many ways we investigate what’s happening beneath the surface to help keep your pets healthy. 🐶🐱💙

🐾 Please join us in welcoming two wonderful new faces to our team! 🐾

We’re so excited to welcome Dr. Susan Calverley and Dr. Andrea Kinnear! 💙

🌿 Dr. Susan Calverley will be joining us as a locum in September! A WCVM graduate with over 30 years of veterinary experience, Susan has a special interest in rehabilitation and mobility and is a Certified Canine Rehabilitation Therapist and Veterinary Medical Acupuncturist. Outside the clinic, she enjoys time with family, her dogs, reading, puzzles, kayaking, and swimming.

🌊 Dr. Andrea Kinnear is joining us as a new full time associate in October! A Sunshine Coast native and WCVM graduate, Andrea also holds a Master of Science in Large Animal Clinical Sciences. After time in research and veterinary school in Saskatoon, she’s excited to be back on the West Coast with her husband and two dogs, caring for pets and their families in the community.

We’re thrilled to have you both on the team and can’t wait for you to get to know our wonderful clients and patients! 🐶🐱💙

🧦🐶 When socks are your favourite snack…

Dr. Dhawala came in on his day off to help a sock-eating pup — removing the offending sock via endoscopy! ❤️

Endoscopy can be a great alternative to open surgery when appropriate, offering:
✨ No abdominal incision
✨ Less pain and tissue trauma
✨ Faster recovery
✨ Shorter hospitalization

Not every foreign body can be removed this way, but when it’s an option, it can make a big difference!

Huge thanks to Dr. Dhawala for coming in on his day off to help this little troublemaker! 🐾❤️

Eight-year-old Linus came to us for surgery to remove a splenic mass, and what a journey it's been. ❤️

The mass weighed an incredible 5kg (11lb)—and the best news? It was completely benign. 🎉 No cancer. Just the outcome everyone was hoping for.

Since surgery, Linus has been thriving. He's recovered beautifully and has gained those 5kg back the healthy way, with strong muscle and a healthy body condition. Seeing him happy, active, and feeling like himself again is exactly why we do what we do.

Way to go, Linus! 🐾💙
