You don’t need to be fast, fit, or experienced to enjoy mantrailing. Your job is simply to follow your dog. Their job is to solve the scent puzzle. It’s a low pressure activity for people and an incredible outlet for a dog’s mind, body, and natural instincts. Join us for our next 4 week set starting July 20th at 6:00 pm in Sherwood Park & Area.

6 Things I’d Tell Every Reactive Dog Owner

1. You’re not failing.
Having a reactive dog doesn’t make you a bad owner. You’re reading this post, you’re seeking help. You are everything your dog needs.
2. Progress isn’t linear.
One rough walk doesn’t erase weeks of hard work. Setbacks are part of learning for both of you.
3. Small wins are wins.
That glance at another dog without barking? Choosing to look back at you? Recovering faster than last week? Celebrate it all.
4. Stop comparing your dog to everyone else’s.
Your dog’s journey is unique. Focus on where they started, not where someone else is today. You never know what another dog owner is struggling with.
5. Management is not cheating.
Crossing the street, using distance, treats, sniff breaks, or choosing quieter places are smart training choices, not shortcuts. You do not need to push your dog into situation they’re not ready for, for the sake of training.
6. Your dog is so lucky to have you.
The fact that you’re learning and trying every day means your dog has someone who truly cares. Keep going.

Every dog is different, and every family has different goals.

Over the last few months we’ve helped families with everything from puppy training and leash walking to reactivity, resource guarding, recall, confidence building, manners around kids, settling in the home, and so much more.

One of the biggest benefits of working with Pup Culture Canines is that we come to you. Training happens in the environment where your dog actually lives, making it easier to address real life challenges and create practical solutions that fit your family’s lifestyle.

Whether you’re bringing home a new puppy, struggling with unwanted behaviours, or just want to strengthen your relationship with your dog, we offer training packages designed to provide ongoing support every step of the way. Personalized, force-free training tailored to you and your dog.

📍Serving Sherwood Park, Edmonton, and surrounding areas.

Content warning: This video contains harsh physical corrections toward a dog.

Yesterday, while waiting for a client, I witnessed what happens when outdated training methods are mistaken for education.

The dog in this video wasn’t being “stubborn,” “dominant,” or “defiant.” She looked stressed, conflicted, and unsure and every mistake was met with more physical correction.

This is the part of dog training that many people still normalize: repeated leash jerks, intimidation, physical punishment, and forcing compliance through discomfort.

And the hardest part? Many owners truly believe they’re doing the right thing because it’s what we were taught.

Dogs do not need fear or pain to learn.

Training should focus on communication, safety, trust, and teaching the dog what to do instead of punishing them for struggling.

A dog that shuts down or stops reacting after repeated corrections is not necessarily “trained.” Often, they’re overwhelmed.

There is a better way to work through pulling, reactivity, excitement, and big emotions without harming the relationship in the process.

We can do better for our dogs.

Reactive dogs are not bad dogs. They’re dogs who are struggling to cope with the world around them.

If walks feel stressful…If you avoid other dogs, people, or busy places…If your dog barks, lunges, freezes, panics, or completely loses focus…

You are NOT alone. This class is for you.

Our Reactive Dog Drop-In sessions are designed to give dogs and their humans real life practice in a safe, judgement free environment with professional guidance and controlled setups.

We focus on building confidence, reducing over arousal, reinforcing coping skills and helping handlers feel more confident too.

No punishment. No flooding. No harsh corrections. Just meeting dogs where they’re at and helping them succeed.

Because reactive dogs and their owners deserve support too. Join us for our first drop in lesson this Sunday at 12:00 PM!
