In April of 2011 there were 2 buhund litters born at Kyon-both sired by our beloved import TOMBA( nor/can Change MBIG Ch Valaurtun Tomba kimura). The dams were Tora and Tia. From Tora we held onto MAGNUS (Ch Kyon's Bold Ruler) and eventually he went to live a wonderful life with Tony and Moira Cohen... but to our joy he still often comes to stay with us at Kyon! From Tia we sent our pick, D0RA ( ch Kyon's Snille Halldora), to Irmeli and Roy Wharton in BC.

And now we can celebrate that these two wonderful dogs have turned 15 years old and are entering their 16th year in fine health and good spirits! We are so very blessed that these two beloved dogs are being so well cared for in their wonderful homes!

Moira Cohen writes:" Magnus so far is managing well. He’s good on any textured flooring/carpet etc. He can manage 4 or 5 steps of the stairs on his own. Fortunately, we spend most of our time out at the country house where he doesn’t really have any stairs. He is not quite at the point where we feel he needs any medication: He’s slower ... but he still loves to go for a walk, it's just not as long now. He loves the winter and the snow and cold, so : This past winter he loved being outside and he just lied down in the snow and looked around – very happy ! He also loves the wind and will happily just stand with the wind blowing in his face and take in all the sniffs! He is still like he has always been when it’s food time, trots around the kitchen island anxiously awaiting his bowl and, gently pokes me with his nose as I’m preparing the food to see if there is any morsel I might share with him in advance of being served his meal 😊. His eating is good, though we are keeping him a bit skinnier – vet says it’s better for him and easier to stay mobile"

Irmeli Wharton writes: "once we got Dora she settled nicely with Beyla and Sassy- and we started play-training for shows. She loved showing from day one - and became a Champion show dog in October of 2012. In 2012 we moved to acreage and Dora found a new purpose. She was monitoring and evicting all rodents and birds. She also developed a new superpower... getting really dirty. And after a while she would shake and all the dirt fell off her and she was clean again! In 2013 we adopted two male buhunds and Dora immediately became the boss of the pack. We called them collectively "The Bozos". They all got along and we had lots of fun training and playing with all of them.
Now sadly her pack mates are all gone and she is slowing down a bit, but is still robust and healthy. Her 15th birthday in April was celebrated with special treats and family visitors.Thank you for allowing Dora to be part of our family. "

We are so VERY proud of REBEL (Ch Goldnote's Rebel at Kyon, pedigree https://k9-data.org/dog/detail/827223 ) who was an official therapy dog for the Canadian Open this month!

And then not to be outdone: his daughter ISLA ( Kyon's Gaia Lovelocks , pedigree https://k9-data.org/dog/detail/1192831 ) also qualified as a new St John's Therapy dog... following in her daddy's steady footsteps and bringing comfort, wherever she goes!

We are very grateful to Gary and Mary Haslett for all you do with both Rebel and Isla ❤👏 .

Rebel was bred by Bruce Brown at Goldnote Golden Retrievers . ❤️

We are thrilled to announce that our sweet and brilliant PIPPI ( Ch Kyon's Legendary Pippi Longstocking SD-CH) is heavily pregnant and we cannot wait to welcome these babies (soon!) from this, her very last litter. Pippi, who got her championship as a puppy, has made breed history by also becoming the very first Norwegian buhund SDDA scenting champion in Canada. She is now working towards her Master Ch. title! Her full pedigree and clearances can be found here: https://norwegianbuhund.breedarchive.com/animal/view/kyons-legendary-pippi-long-stocking-ecf9ab1e-a27b-40f5-a9c0-5e767bfcee0c .
The sire of these puppies is the handsome K0PI (Ch Kyon's Kopiko Tyrison). He is a striking young dog, of exceptional type and structure and a fabulous temperament. He is owned by Tim Wong & Carmilia Sun and we are so pleased that we were able to "borrow" Kopi for this breeding . Kopi finished his championship- at just over 1 year of age- with a huge Herding Group 1st. His pedigree and clearances can be found here:
https://norwegianbuhund.breedarchive.com/animal/view/kyons-kopiko-tyrison-c8a0fc35-4f5c-4585-885c-b894fdf1a55f
These puppies will make for fabulous pets, should be outstanding performance dogs and should also have strong potential for the conformation show-ring! This will be the only KY0N buhund litter expected this year.
Please contact Karin Klouman ,either via FB messenger or via email at [email protected] for more information.
Stay tuned for lots of puppy pictures!!

We are *beyond delighted* with Toby's last weekend of showing at the Golden Retriever Speciality-weekend at Erie Shores, where he was piloted to 3 SELECT dog wins - in stiff competition - resulting in a *New Grand Championship* ( pending CKC confirmation).
To have him achieve this title under respected Danish breeder judge *Frederik Kien Saunders* was the simply the icing on the cake! Toby is now known as: Can Gr Ch Costadoro Bake Me a Cake at Kyon SD-S.
In very limited showing Toby has been awarded his honours under American breeder and all-breed judges, Canadian all breed Judges, Australian all breed judges, a Scandinavian Breeder judge and a Mexican breeder judge ... Toby is a dog that everybody simply loves- and we are so blessed to have him in our life!
our many thanks go out Toby's best friend and brilliant handler: *Colin Brownlee* (and TEAM!) for always presenting Toby so well.❤
We are also very grateful to breeder *Michele Gawenka* and *Emilie Edling* ( stud dog owner) for putting BAKER and SALSA together and "creating " our beloved Toby! ❤ ❤
Now onto the performance sport arena! Toby is next entered in scent trials and is also training for the Rally ring.
Toby's clearances and his blended-outcross pedigree is here: https://k9-data.org/dog/detail/1354319 .

UPDATE: There seems to be some confusion among some of our fellow American Golden Retriever breeders . YES , Toby was bred to a couple of our own females on an 18 months preliminary OFA GOOD hip score (as well as all his other clearances) and he now has a final OFA EXCELLENT score. We live in CANADA and we always follow our Golden Retriever Club of Canada (GRCC )detailed code of ethics - to the letter,-which allows for young stud dogs to be started at 18 months. It is only the US- in the whole world- who insists on a 24 month clearance, but we at KYON are not Americans - and so we follow CANADIAN GRCC guidelines to the letter. We are not members of the GRCA.

We are over the moon happy to announce that our wonderful TOBY ( CH Costadoro Bake me a cake at Kyon SD-S) now has passed all his final clearances, his DNA is all clear- his eyes are clear and TODAY we got his final certificates of OFA EXCELLENT HIPS and N0RMAL ELB0WS. Toby's blended outcross pedigree is here: https://k9-data.org/dog/detail/1354319 .

ALS0: Look for our now "almost grown-up" TOBY at Erie Shores in the Special class- with his best friend and handler Colin Brownlee ❤

Toby is now available to approved females -and like all our Kyon boys he is an excellent natural breeder. His first litters are looking very lovely indeed!

Please direct all inquiries to Sean Barr-Klouman at seanbk@kyonkennels@gmail.com or Karin Klouman at [email protected] .

Toby is bred by: Michele Gawenka.
Sire owner is: Emilie Edling.

*Most of all Toby is Karin's and Wally's beloved pet- and Karin's talented scenting dog*. We can't believe our good luck in having this wonderful dog join our home!

What a weekend at the TAMSU's SDDA scent trial! I am so very-very- VERY proud of my 3 buhund girls, PIPPI, UNI and ZIGGY - who all worked so well during incredibly stormy weather! Tents went a-flying, tarps were a-flapping, we were soaking wet , it was driving rain and freezing temperatures- but my girls just steadily focused on the 'task at hand'.

PIPPI was so impressive and loved every minute of her time scenting - 5 weeks pregnant, she was utterly focused and determined - and came away with two PERFECT scores in Excellent containers and another in Excellent Interior. She is so close to her MASTER championship title- but we will now take a break while she gets ready for her last (and final!) litter-- and a summer of what she loves even more : Raising puppies!

UNI was my STAR in Advanced - and came away with another full advanced title- she is racking those up, so that she can start on her Excellent titles, once Pippi takes a maternity break. She passed one Containers, TWO Exteriors and one Interior... she is such a dedicated worker, wagging her happy tail all along with amazing joy. She is a brilliant dog and totally in cue with me; her handler. (Sometimes that is a drawback - since my body-language may give her the wrong clue - but we are working on that 😉 . )

Then there was my lovely ZIGGY- what can I say: I just LOVE this dog- and oh how she makes me laugh! She has an amazingly thorough approach- but she also has to check out EVERYTHING within her scenting parameter. She saunters carefully along- stopping and taking note of anything 'interesting' in her way- it may be her own reflection in a puddle that she has to stare at- or a blade of grass blowing in the wind- or a pine cone- or a place where she can tell rodents hang out- but she ALS0 finds the scents hidden - although unfortunately not QUITE quickly enough. She is very close to getting her SDDA scent championship- and I am so determined she will get there, eventually... since she obviously enjoys the whole experience . This weekend she found TW0 of the three hidden hides in the huge exterior area - before we "timed out". I am so pleased with her effort- and for providing the laughs! ZIGGY must be just the CUTEST dog there ever was ❤ and how can you not love her !

Thank you to the two judges who where amazing to be under- Julie and Richard set fabulous hides and managed to keep smiling, despite the horrendus weather. Quite a feat!

Also many thanks to John Mairs for hosting and for being a super training coach - and huge 'shout-outs' to all my fellow volunteers- we all tried our very best to keep the trial running smoothly!

To everything there is a season:

We now say our sad farewell to ANNIE who passed this last week- 2 short months from her 16th birthday - and 3 days after leaving KYON for the last time.

Annie had come back to visit us for one last time- and had appeared robustly healthy her first few days at Kyon camp- however on her last day she suddenly declined due to her advanced old age and a multitude of health issues that took hold. And within days we got the dreaded notification that she had gently passed, surrounded by love and held kindly by John and daughter, Ellen. Annie’s other owner Sarah Beisheim did not quite make it back in time from holidays, which makes this loss doubly hard for the family.

“ Sarah writes: Our house feels so empty. Everywhere are still signs - toys, dishes, beds, blankets - and of course pictures. We keep thinking we are hearing them. We are keeping really busy to distract ourselves. They were a huge part of our lives and of our kids’ lives. All our friends knew and loved them. John and I walked through Highland Park last evening, where we walked Sven for 14 years and the girls for the last 5, all year long: they loved that park, and it was incredibly sad to be there without them.”

Annie lived all her life in the US , but came home to us at Kyon for boarding- as did her housemates Sven and Ivy .we are so grateful that we got the privilege of caring for our beloved “pups” in their senior years!

Annie’s story is one of being a benign ruling matriarch of her little pack of 3.
Annie and Sven were raised together at Kyon, and were 3/4 siblings. Sven was from Maggie Mae and Ivan- and Annie from Naha and Ivan- and those two litters were born here at the same time almost 16 years ago.

The Beisheims had Sven first and then 5 years ago they rescued Annie and Ivy - through a Kyon appeal on Facebook- as their first home was falling apart. (Little did we at the time know that Annie had had pups and that Ivy in fact was Annie’s daughter)

SVEN was the first to pass - at age 14.5 years - 18 months ago. This wonderful gentleman of a dog had welcomed Annie and Ivy into his home with joy and affection and together they formed a little pack of “the 3 amigos”. Sven was a loving and loyal dog- the King of their household - and the Besheims were bereft when he passed . But he certainly had a long life well lived and we were so grateful for that.

Then Ivy passed next - and suddenly - last year. She made almost 13 years of age….we do not know her paternal pedigree since she was not registered- (her previous owners just deciding to breed Annie to a neighbourhood Golden 😪). IVY was a wonderfully affectionate and truly beautiful golden - sweetness inside and out - and became a therapy dog in her later years.

That left ANNIE-the oldest of them all: She was a phenomenal dog-the smallest of the 3, but the undisputed Boss: Full of character and determination, stubborn and clever - all wrapped into one beautiful and affectionately loving package. We worried that when her daughter passed on that she would soon follow, but instead with the Beisheims’ incredible dedication , she blossomed and lived for almost another year.

So we feel as if an 'era' has passed with these 3 now gone. Our deep gratitude goes out to the Beisheims for the wonderful lives Annie, Sven and Ivy had. Our deepest condolences to John , Sarah and Ellen.

Last Friday was both a SAD and a HAPPY day at Kyon: 0ur darling LASSE -who has been with us since birth - left for his new home which he is sharing with the BEST family ever - and another Kyon Buhund.

His new buhund “brother” is the handsome and super-nice Storm, who is Lasse's 3/4 brother. Lasse is taking the transition really well- loving the young children and adults alike - and learning all about being a beloved family pet, full-time.

Karin, especially, will miss Lasse terribly, and it was very hard to say goodbye - with lots of tears. My heart, however, is now full with gratitude, knowing that my sweet and wonderful boy has just found the most perfect home possible.❤

Lasse's registered name is: CH Kyon's Lille Legendary Lasse O’Blackcombe. His pedigree is here https://norwegianbuhund.breedarchive.com/animal/view/kyons-lille-legendary-lasse-oblackcombe-c51aa008-e68b-43f8-9cce-682fea434f14
