A little reminder about my 8-week policy 🐾
One of the things I specialize in here at Pawsitive Touch Grooms is working with dogs who are reactive, fearful, anxious, difficult to handle, or simply don’t enjoy the grooming process. A huge part of my job isn’t just making them look good, it’s helping them learn that grooming can be a safe and positive experience.
And that takes consistency. ❤️
When I recommend an 8-week maximum between appointments for a dog, I’m not choosing that timeframe randomly or because I want dogs coming in more often just for the sake of it. There is a very specific reason behind it.
Dogs who struggle with grooming need regular, consistent exposure in order to desensitize them to the process and build trust with their groomer. When they go too long between appointments, we lose some of that consistency and the progress we’ve made can start to unravel. The longer they stay away, the harder it can be to maintain that calm, trusting relationship.
I also want to be very clear that when I take on a dog with behavioural or handling challenges, my recommended schedule is part of their grooming plan. If I tell you that your dog needs to return within 8 weeks, I need you to follow that recommendation.
I’m not putting these limits in place to be difficult or controlling. I’m doing it because I genuinely want to help your dog. I can’t properly desensitize a dog, build their confidence, or make meaningful progress if I’m only seeing them every 10–12+ weeks.
Consistency is what allows me to continue building on the work we’ve already done instead of constantly starting over.
So if your dog is part of my reactive, fearful, or challenging-dog clientele, please understand that listening to my scheduling recommendations is a requirement for continuing to be part of my salon. I need owners to trust my professional judgement and work with me as a team.
My goal is never to rush a dog, force them through something they’re uncomfortable with, or simply "get the groom done." My goal is to create a relationship where your dog can eventually feel safe, comfortable, and confident coming through my door.
But I can only do that if we work together. 🩵
8 weeks isn't an arbitrary rule. It's part of the process. 🐾
