This month, my gratitude is for the incredible people who open their homes and hearts to our foster animals.
Fostering is such a special part of rescue. You give an animal a safe place to grow, heal, learn, and be loved while they wait for their forever family. But what I’ve learned through my own fostering experience is that it’s never quite as simple as saying goodbye.
You fall in love. You learn their personalities, get used to the tiny paws around the house, and become part of their story. Then suddenly, the house is quiet again.
One of our wonderful foster dads, Bradley, recently shared this after his three kittens found their forever homes:
“I didn’t realize how attached I was going to get to these little ones. Yesterday was rough, kinda hard walking in without the stampede. I woke up last night and went to check on them… then I remembered.”
He described having the kittens take over his house as feeling like being five years old at Christmas—except it lasted almost three weeks. He loved every minute of it and was already hoping he could help again.
That is fostering.
It’s opening your home knowing the goal is to love them enough to let them go. The goodbye may be bittersweet, but knowing they’re heading to a family who will love them for the rest of their lives makes every mess, late night, cuddle, and goodbye worth it.
To Bradley, and to every one of our foster families: thank you for saying yes. Thank you for making room, for the patience, the laundry, the sleepless nights, the chaos, and most of all, the love. 🐾
You are an essential part of helping vulnerable animals find their people. We couldn’t do this without you.
And Bradley… we’re glad you already offered to take another brood of monsters. ❤️
This is why I do the work I do. I’m so grateful for the humanity and compassion of the people who show up for these animals in so many different ways.
