I’m off to Calgary for medical treatment, and I’m incredibly grateful to everyone who has so generously donated to my GoFundMe and helped make this possible.

I’ll be returning to work on Tuesday, September 8th. During my time away, my social media activity and ability to respond to messages will be greatly affected.

Thank you so much for your patience, understanding, and support. I truly appreciate it, and I look forward to seeing you all when I return. ❤️

It takes a village to run the rescue, and Crystal has been an incredible part of ours for over a decade! We asked her a few questions about her 12 years with New Hope Dog Rescue and why she’s so passionate about helping dogs.

How long have you been volunteering with New Hope Dog Rescue?
“It was 12 years in December 2025 that I took my first foster. I named her Uno.”

How do you volunteer with New Hope Dog Rescue?
“I’m a foster home, although I haven’t had a foster in a while. I like to take the ‘challenging’ dogs who need a bit of extra work. I also offer free nail trims to foster dogs (even the ones who don’t cooperate). When asked, I provide training advice and support, as well as socialization opportunities for our fosters.”

What advice would you give to someone thinking about volunteering?
“Try it. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain. If you foster, sometimes it can be challenging, but it’s one of the most rewarding things you can do. The fulfillment you get from helping dogs is something you won’t find anywhere else.”

Finally, if you could spend a day with any famous dog, who would it be?
“I’d spend a day with the pups from 101 Dalmatians. I’d enjoy all the cuddles and puppy antics, then be glad I didn’t have to clean up after 101 dogs every day! Or Milo from The Mask because I love Jack Russells.”

Thank you, Crystal, for 12 years of compassion, dedication, and for always stepping up for the dogs who need a little extra patience and care. Your impact on New Hope Dog Rescue and the lives of countless dogs is truly appreciated.

Inspired to help? Whether it’s fostering, volunteering at events, helping with transports, or supporting behind the scenes, there’s a place for everyone at New Hope Dog Rescue. Visit our website to learn more about joining our amazing volunteer team!

I've struggled with whether or not to post this because asking for help has never come easily to me. But the truth is, I can't keep pretending everything is okay.

On June 17, my neck suddenly swelled to the point that looking down felt like I was being strangled. I had no idea that would be the day my life would change.

Since then, my body hasn't felt like my own.

Anything that raises my heart rate—even something as simple as walking too fast, standing for too long, or sometimes even sitting upright—can leave me with blurred vision, seeing spots, intense pounding pressure in my head, a racing heart, dizziness, and a terrifying feeling like I'm not fully in my own body. It's hard to explain unless you've experienced it, but it's frightening every single time.

I've been doing everything I can just to keep showing up for work, and by the time I am done, I have nothing left. Most of my life now is spent in bed because my body simply can't handle much more. It's taken away my independence, my energy, and so much of the life I used to take for granted.

The hardest part has been not having answers. I've been through appointment after appointment, bloodwork, and countless tests, only to be told everything looks "normal." I've stumped multiple doctors, but that doesn't change the reality that my body is telling me something is very wrong.

I've finally found a specialist in Calgary who focuses on dysautonomia and autonomic nervous system disorders. They can do more specialized testing for POTS and related conditions, and they offer treatment aimed at helping regulate and retrain the nervous system—something that gives me hope for the first time in weeks.

The downside is that getting there, paying for appointments, travel, and accommodations is more than I can manage while trying to survive this.

I've started a GoFundMe because I don't know what else to do. If you're able to donate, I would be forever grateful. If donating isn't possible, simply sharing my fundraiser could help it reach someone who can.

I miss feeling like myself. I miss having the energy to live instead of just trying to make it through each day. More than anything, I just want answers—and a chance to heal.

Thank you to everyone who has checked in on me, supported me, and believed me through all of this. Your kindness has carried me through some incredibly difficult days, and I'll never forget it. ❤️
