Plans are well underway for our three day, 25th Anniversary NADAC trial on September 5. 6 & 7th.
We have lots of fun games planned – Touch and Go G.O.A.T runs, Top Dog Awards, Challenge Award, Trivia quiz, special prizes for special runs, doggie treats, Bee nice awards (in honor of our judge) and a raffle for two beautiful afghans handmade by Deb Zacharias with proceeds going to Cancer Research.
We’ll have a Mexican Fiesta Taco Bar for our Saturday evening supper, everyone is welcome and we may even have a corn hole tournament. We will also have a Pot Luck Wiener Roast for our Sunday evening supper, again everyone is welcome.
For those of you new to NADAC here are a few helpful hints.
1) all of the rules are on the web page at nadac.com. But there are always a few things not in the rules so here goes....
2) If the trial is listed as a double run trial that means if you enter both rounds you walk the course once and then you can run it twice for a qualifying (Q) run. So I think it makes sense to run both round one and round two; you get a second chance!
3) There will be a judges briefing Saturday morning where the judge will talk about whatever she feels is important! You can ask questions if you have any.
4) Elite dogs always run first, then open then novice then Intro.
5) You will get 5 minutes to walk the course (use it).
6) One day we start with small dogs and work to big dogs and vice versa the next day.
7) There will be a gate steward and a running order at the entrance to the ring. The gate steward will call for 4 or 5 dogs to be ready to enter. The gate steward will tell you when to enter the ring as directed by the judge. You MUST have your leash on, only one dog off leash at a time.
8) Dogs must enter and exit the ring on leash.
9) Don’t take your leash off until you hear the judge say “good luck”. She will wait until the dog ahead of you is back on leash before she says this.
10) Drop your leash beside you and a leash runner will pick it up after your dog has left the start line. The leash runner will hand you your leash at the end of your run. If you don’t want the leash runner to hand you your leash tell her/him what you want before you take your leash off. You can either have it on the ground, put it in your pocket or across your body or have a leash buddy that will put the leash on the dog for you.
11) If your dog wanders off and loses focus during your run just keep calling her back and then keep going. The judge is more lenient with intro/novice dogs. If the dog won’t come back and you hear the judge say thank you that means you may now leave!
12) If your dog pees or poops in the ring you are done! Stay by the spot so we can find it to clean it up and the leash runner will bring you your leash.
13) Your earned points will be posted to the web page under the Dog & Handler Portal for you to keep track. It’s a good idea to check in case of mistakes. There will be a running total of your points and your titles will be listed when enough points have been earned. For example if you see NAC that means you and your dog have earned your Novice Agility Certificate.
Or if you see NATCH – Chances; that just means you have earned enough points in Chances towards your NATCH (Nadac Agility Trial Champion). Once you have earned enough points in Regular and Jumpers along with Chances you have earned a NATCH. A NATCH is earned with a combination of points from Regular, Chances and Jumpers.
