Thinking about becoming a veterinarian, specifically an equine vet? Summer 2027 is your chance to come and see what the job really looks like!

Rhythm Equine Veterinary Services is looking for a Pre-Veterinary Summer Student for 2027. This is a summer position for a university or college student interested in veterinary medicine, animal health, or equine sciences. Applicants do not need to be committed to applying to veterinary school to be considered.

You will work alongside our veterinary team in both our equine hospital and ambulatory practice, to get a behind-the-scenes look at patient care, diagnostics, procedures, client communication, teamwork, and the day-to-day realities of veterinary medicine.

The ideal candidate will have a current drivers license and be:

Experienced with horses
Hardworking and capable
Curious and eager to learn
Comfortable taking feedback
Willing to jump in whenever needed
Interested in growing with Rhythm

Students can expect to be a part of exciting cases, but there will also be stalls to clean, equipment to wash, and horses to hold. We are not looking for someone who already knows everything. We are looking for someone who wants to become excellent.

Interested students can apply by emailing [email protected] before December 15, 2026. Please include:

- A current resume
- References, with contact information
- A brief cover letter accompanying the email, telling us about your previous horse experience, goals, and why you want to spend the summer at Rhythm.

We look forward to hearing from you!

Unsure of what your horse needs this fall? You don't have to be!

Fall is the season to take stock of your horse's care requirements heading in to winter. It is the ideal time to decide if they need:
-A little help with dental care
- A conversation around body-condition and nutrition
- Seasonal vaccinations
- Parasite prevention planning
- A senior wellness assessment
- Any appropriate further testing

Dr. Toni Theaker takes a special interest in dentistry, preventative wellness, and senior horse care. She will take the time to listen to your concerns and observations, and assess the horse in front of her so she can recommend a catered and specialized care plan. At Rhythm, we strive to recommend what fits the horse, rather than a one-size-fits-all checklist.

If you have concerns, or something that needs attention this fall, our aim is to provide you with a clear, practical plan for what comes next. Call us, text us, or book your appointment to start that conversation.

Applications are open for our 2027 Summer Student Program!

We’re looking for one Pre-Veterinary Summer Student and one Veterinary Summer Student to join us from May through August 2027.

A full parking lot and an even more full day of learning, conversation, and connection; It’s been just over a week since the 2026 Prairie Equine Conference, and we are feeling incredibly grateful for another fantastic event.

Prairie Equine Conference is not just for continuing education. It’s an opportunity to bring our local equine veterinary community together—to learn from one another, share ideas, strengthen relationships, and support each other as colleagues. This year was a wonderful reminder of just how valuable those connections are.

Thank you to everyone who attended, presented, shared their expertise, asked great questions, and helped make the conference what it was. We hope you left with some new knowledge, practical ideas to take back to your practice, and stronger connections with the people working alongside you in equine veterinary medicine.

A huge thank you to our Gold Sponsors:
Boehringer Ingelheim Animal Health Canada
True North Veterinary Diagnostics
Mad Barn
Intriquip Instruments
Zoetis

As well as our Equipment Sponsors:
Antech Diagnostics
Intriquip Instruments

And the team at Creekside Veterinary Services, who help us bring the Prairie Equine Conference to life every year.

Your support helps make the Prairie Equine Conference possible and allows us to continue creating opportunities for learning, collaboration, and connection within our profession.

Thank you for being part of PEC 2026. We loved having you here—and we’re already looking forward to the next one.

A lot can change over a year. When you look at your senior horse, have you noticed that they might be moving, eating, or acting a little differently than they did last fall?

You know your horse. They've been with you for most of their life, and have grown old with you. When you've had a horse for that long, you often take note of the subtle changes first. Change doesn't automatically mean that something is wrong! And aging itself is not necessarily a disease. Peristent changes, however, deserve more thought than "they're just getting older."

Observations around weight and topline, chewing, coat quality, drinking, energy, behaviour, and comfort can help as determining factors in developing a care plan for your senior equine. It can help evaluate dentistry, nutrition, preventative care, and bloodwork needs to set your senior horse up for success during the fall, and maintain them heading into winter.

If you've noticed changes in your senior horse, keep track of them and be sure to discuss them with your vet at their next wellness visit. Any time, is the right time to start the conversation. Call, text, or email our office.
