Did you know that toxicity can occur in dogs that ingest manure from recently dewormed livestock?!?

Some dogs also have drug sensitivities. Ivermectin is a common dewormer that some dogs have drug sensitivity to. Toxicity symptoms can be delayed up to 24 hours after exposure. It effects their central nervous system, along with neurological symptoms.

Watch for: lethargy, vomiting, diarrhea, weakness, excessive salivation, muscle twitches, trouble breathing, uncoordinated movement, unusual vocalization, dilated pupils, tremors, seizures, coma.

Do not delay veterinarian care if you suspect deworming toxicity! You can also have deworming toxicity if you calculate your own dogs dewormer dose wrong!

Did you know we cover this in our Canine Emergency First Aid class❗️

Thanks to head office Canine Health Canada for another great post.

Happy World Spay Day 🌍

Spaying your pet has several benefits, one being population control. We have all seen the pleas and call outs for adoptions and fosters. Having pets spayed helps reduce these numbers by preventing accidental and unwanted litters.

Make sure you speak to your vet about the appropriate age to have your pet spayed. There are many factors to consider!
