🤍🐱 Happy National White Cat Day! 🐱🤍

Meet Alaska, also known as Packing Peanut—an all-white beauty who came to see us for her spay… and promptly decided she had been WRONGFULLY IMPRISONED. 😂

Caught hanging onto the kennel bars like a tiny, fluffy inmate, Alaska was clearly ready to file a formal complaint with management. 👀🔒🐾

Thankfully, our team was there to reassure her that this was only a temporary stay and that she would soon be back home, living her best life and causing absolutely no trouble whatsoever. 😉💕

Alaska was a very sweet girl and we were happy to take such good care of her!

Happy National White Cat Day from our favorite little jailbird! 🤍🐾

🦇 A Little Bat News + A Big Reminder! 🐾

A rabid bat was recently found in the RM of Duck Lake. While it’s not in our backyard, it’s a good reminder that wildlife can carry rabies—and our pets can sometimes be way too curious for their own good.

That’s why keeping your pet’s rabies vaccine up to date is so important! It’s one of those things you hopefully never have to think about… until your pet decides that chasing a bat, raccoon, skunk, or other wild critter sounds like a good idea.

Rabies is serious, but prevention is simple:

💉 Keep your pet’s rabies vaccine current.
🦇 Don’t let pets investigate wildlife up close.
🐾 If your pet has contact with a bat or other wild animal, call your veterinarian right away.

As a reminder rabies is a disease which can easily be spread to people. Use caution if you come across wildlife you suspect is rabid and call your regional public health office for further instructions.

Not sure when your pet’s next rabies vaccine is due? Give us a call—we’d be happy to check!

🥰 Meet Our Pets Monday! 🥰

Every Monday, we share one of our staff members’ companion animals and give you a peek into their personality, quirks, and life at home. This week, we’re excited to spotlight Nadine’s pup, Sparky — a 6-year-old Blue Heeler (Australian Cattle Dog)! 🐕💙

1️⃣ How long have you had your pet and where did you get them from?
"I got Sparky 5 years ago from the Battlefords Humane Society. He has been a wonderful addition to the family and has filled our lives with lots of personality." 🏡💕

2️⃣ What is their funniest or weirdest habit?
"Sparky loves to sleep on his back with his feet in the air. It’s definitely his favourite way to relax!" 😂🐾

3️⃣ If they had a job, what would it be?
"Sparky would be a security guard! You can usually find him on the couch watching out the window, barking at anything that dares to move outside. He takes his job of monitoring the neighbourhood very seriously." 🛡️🐶

4️⃣ What are their nicknames?
Sparkles, Sparky Barky, Barkles 💙

5️⃣ What’s one preventative care step you never skip for your pet?
"Annual blood work! Sparky gets regular blood work to monitor his kidney function because he is on long-term pain medication that can affect his kidneys. Keeping an eye on his health helps us make sure he stays comfortable and happy." 💉🩺

Stay tuned for next Monday to meet another one of our amazing staff pets! 💕

Yoni’s Spay Day: 10/10 for Cuteness, 0/10 for Keeping Her Tongue In! 😂💕

Sweet Yoni came in for her spay and apparently decided that keeping her tongue in her mouth was simply not part of the treatment plan.

While Yoni was busy showing off her adorable tongue-out smile, our technician Katie was right there making sure this sweet girl was comfortable, cared for, and getting plenty of love. 🥰🐾

We think Yoni deserves an A+ for being such a good patient… and an extra treat for that adorable face!

We are happy to report Yoni's tongue did go back into her mouth eventually and she is all healed up from her procedure now. 😂💗

1️⃣ How long have you had your pet and where did you get them from?

2️⃣ What is their funniest or weirdest habit?
"Mabel is more of a shy kitty, but she has a very distinct voice that she is not afraid to use when she wants some attention and affection!" 😂🐾

🐾💙 Happy National Take Your Cat to the Vet Day! 💙🐾

Today is the perfect reminder that regular veterinary visits are one of the most important things we can do to keep our cats happy, healthy, and thriving! 🩺🐱

Cats are experts at hiding signs of illness, and routine wellness exams help us catch changes early — sometimes before they become bigger concerns. From nose to tail, we are here to help support your pet through every stage of life. 💕

Regular veterinary care can help with:

✨ Preventative health screenings
💉 Vaccinations and parasite prevention
🦷 Dental health checks
⚖️ Weight and nutrition guidance
🩺 Senior pet monitoring
❤️ Early detection of health concerns

Whether your cat is a curious kitten, or a beloved senior companion, every stage of life deserves quality care. 🐾

📅 Is your cat due for their wellness exam? Give us a call and let’s keep them feeling their best!

🥰 Meet Our Pets Monday! 🥰

Every Monday, we share one of our staff members’ companion animals and give you a peek into their personality, quirks, and life at home. This week, we’re excited to spotlight Nadine’s pup, Star — an approximately 11-year-old Blue Heeler (Australian Cattle Dog) and Border Collie cross! 🐕💙

1️⃣ How long have you had your pet and where did you get them from?
"I got Star 11 years ago from the Saskatoon SPCA. She quickly became a beloved member of the family and has been by my side ever since." 🏡💕

2️⃣ What is their funniest or weirdest habit?
"Star loves to hold a toy and bark at you like she wants you to throw it. But the moment you try to grab it from her, she runs away! She definitely knows how to make fetch a little more complicated." 😂🐾

3️⃣ If they had a job, what would it be?
"Star would be a bodyguard! She is very protective of her people and takes her job of keeping everyone safe very seriously." 🛡️🐶

4️⃣ What are their nicknames?
Tarry, Starry Poopus, Poopus, Stinky, Old Lady 💖

5️⃣ What’s one preventative care step you never skip for your pet?

UPDATE: Kiwi has been found and is home safe. Thank you to all those who helped search for her!

🚨🚨Kiwi unfortunately was able to sneak out her basement window. If you live in the Nutana area please keep your eye out for her.

This is Dr. Schaefer’s kitty, Kiwi — a 1.5 year old Domestic Shorthair Lynx Point Siamese/Tabby mix! 🐈✨

1️⃣How long have you had your pet and where did you get them from?
"I've had Kiwi for a year and a half. I met her during my anesthesia rotation at the WCVM in my fourth year. She was an SPCA rescue and the friendliest cat I had ever met! My partner met her too, and we asked to adopt her that very same day." 💙

2️⃣What is their funniest or weirdest habit?
“Kiwi loves to lick people—even people she's never met before! She is also incredibly social and insists on being part of every friend or family gathering at our house, no matter how many people are there.” 😸👅

3️⃣If they had a job, what would it be?
“An actress, because she always waits to make sure you're watching before she does something funny.” 🎭✨

4️⃣What are their nicknames?
Weewers, Stinker, Pretty Baby 💕

5️⃣What’s one preventative care step you never skip for your pet?
“I add an omega-3 oil supplement to Kiwi’s diet to help support her long-term joint health and reduce the risk of osteoarthritis in the future. Omega-3s are one of our most evidence-based supplements for joint, skin, and brain health. Since Kiwi has already had orthopedic surgery at our clinic, we're especially focused on keeping her joints healthy and happy. As a bonus, her coat has become incredibly soft since we started supplementing!” 🐟🦴✨
