There’s a part of being a dog groomer that people don’t always see.
We’re lucky enough to be invited into the lives of so many wonderful dogs. We learn their personalities, their little quirks, the things that make them nervous, the things that make them happy. We learn how they like to be handled, where they like to be scratched, their favourite snacks and nap spots.
We earn their trust, one groom at a time.
And somewhere along the way, without even realizing it, we fall in love with them.
Over the last couple of years, I’ve had to say goodbye to some very special friends. Dogs who came through our door as clients and somehow became so much more than that. Familiar faces, little personalities, and pieces of my heart that I didn’t even realize they had taken with them.
That’s one of the hardest parts of this job.
Because we don’t just say goodbye to a dog. We say goodbye to a relationship we built, a familiar face on our table, a little soul we had the privilege of knowing and caring for.
And while our hearts ache for them, they ache even more for the families who have to say goodbye to their best friend.
To all of the families who have trusted me with your dogs over the years: thank you. Thank you for allowing me to know them, care for them, love them, and be a small part of their lives.
I hope you know that they were loved here, too.
I love what I do. I love these dogs more than I could ever put into words. And I think that’s why losing them hurts so much.
Some might say “they’re just a dog” but to me, they were friends.
And I will carry every single one of them with me. 🤍🐾
Until we meet again, sweet friends. 🌈
