Long Family Farm

Long Family Farm Small hobby farm in Salmon Arm BC dedicated to raising Belgian shepherd dogs, nubian and myotonic goats, kune kune and American mini pigs.

Unfortunately my farm page has been periodically on lockdown. FB is cracking down on not just animal sales, but anything to do with animals. Their algorithms are getting better, and they now have spies that report pages and groups. PETA is a major shareholder and their goal is to end all animal ownership. I suspect it won't be long until my farm page is shut down. I have started a MeWe account and encourage everyone else to do so. Though it is harder to navigate, it is slowly becoming everyone's go-to for advertising animals for sale. I DO indeed have some, ahem,"weedeaters" available as well as some uhhh "carrot eaters" (? I have no clever names, it's morning, sorry) ready to go in a few weeks, so please contact me if interested.

One more contest! Vote for "The Beehive" at South Canoe and be entered to win a full dog groom (value up to $50 -- had to change value due to other contest regulations) when our shop reopens (grand opening by spring 2020), no expiry date.
Over 14 years experience grooming all breeds; I use natural products, dogs are worked on by hand (no bath systems or cage drying), and it's a quiet slow paced environment, great for seniors or anxious or reactive dogs who don't do well in a busy shop environment. The shop is undergoing reno's currently and we can't wait to get started again. See the album below to see some fun "before and after" shots and other cute pics. ^_^

Ok, new tactic to get your votes in! Vote for "The Beehive" at South Canoe -- screenshot your accepted vote and post in the comments. Each vote (up to 4 per day using FB, email, Google, and Twitter) will give you one entry into a contest for one dozen hatchings eggs (+extras), all from one breed or mixed and matched. Each vote gives you another entry. AND SHARING THIS POST gives you another entry! I SAID I was only going to do some small local egg sales this year and otherwise hoard all new stock to myself, so this is it folks: Your last chance for shipped eggs. Click and vote.

Eggs will be available after August 1st (still separating pens).
The most likely eggs to be available as follows;
Black and blue copper marans; This is a Greendale rooster over hens from my own stock out of birds from Under the Feather Farms, Rustic Roots, Bryan Family Farms, and Melinda Ivan in Lake Country. Some of these birds are SOP, some are strictly bred for egg colour.
Buff and lemon cuckoo orpingtons; Rustic Roots buff rooster over buff and lemon cukoo hens from Ontario. Some of the nicest SOP birds I have had.
Jersey giants; A locally bought black rooster over black and blue hens from Ontario; Full disclosure, while the hens are incredible and have done really well at shows (one Champion American/reserve champion standard under judge Heather Hayes, one more recently Reserve Champion American). The rooster is mediocre, but all I've been able to find for these now almost 3 year old hens.
Euskal oiloas (marraduna); Hardy, inquisitve birds. All my own stock down from birds from Ontario and Ravenwood Acres. My birds tend to be on the redder side due to a mixed variety breeding with a gorria a few generations back.
Black and cuckoo orpingtons split to lavender; A Wild acres lavender cuckoo orpington rooster over black hens from Briarwood and What's Cluckin' Farm.
True rumpless Araucanas, clean faced rooster over clean and tufted hens; I don't typically sell these eggs so before I change my mind..... Blue cuckoo paint birds from Ontario.
Olive eggers; Black copper marans rooster over blue and olive layers. As some of these layers are not pure for the blue gene, possibly 1/3 offspring will lay brown. Quite the genetic variety here, some rumpless, some frizzled, and some fabulous broodies.
Barnyard mixes; Huge variety in our mixed pen including frizzles, polish, and rumpless birds. Lots of fun!
Lots of people ask us about our silkies -- we have had little luck with the fertility in my silkie pen so far, but indeed any chicks will be out of SHOW CHAMPION Mr. Cutes, over white silkies and showgirls as well as some other colour varieties as I have not split up the colours in this pen and don't intend to this year, so you get what you get. I wouldn't recommend asking for these eggs until fertility is closer to 90% but I'll gladly throw some in as extras.
Guinea fowl are not currently laying but we will see if things change.

It says that voting is for BC residents only; I don't know if their software can tell the difference, but I can indeed say that I am only able to ship hatching eggs within Canada; Eggs are well packaged; We have yet to have any breaks. Typical prices per dozen eggs range from 20 to 90 per dozen depending on breed, but per BCAA contest rules, I may only award up to a $50 value. For those who do not have an incubator but are just wanting to support our school, you may ask for three dozen rainbow eating eggs (pictured below). Or, donate the eggs to the school -- I will lend an incubator. It just takes a moment to vote and make a difference!
Please share the link! Winner announced June 24th.
