Elgin Animal Hospital

Elgin Animal Hospital The Elgin Animal Hospital is a small animal veterinary hospital located in St. Thomas, Ontario. Thomas (across the road from its current location).

The Elgin Veterinary Clinic was started in 1964 by two veterinarians, Dr. Sven Meeuwisse and Dr. Harry Short. It was a mixed animal practice dealing mainly with farm animals, and was located at 9830 Sunset Road, St. Dr. Steve Stewart joined the practice in 1975. In 1976, the three veterinarians opened a second clinic, the Talbot Animal Clinic, and Dr. Stewart became the principle veterinarian at t

he second clinic. The Talbot Animal Clinic was (and still is) located downtown St. Thomas, and is a small animal veterinary clinic. Dr. Paul Headly was the next veterinarian to join the clinics and became a partner when Dr. Meeuwisse retired from practice. Dr. Allan House joined the team in 1983, and became a partner when Dr. Short retired. During the late 70โ€ฒs and into the 80โ€ฒs, the Elgin Veterinary Clinicโ€™s small animal practice grew rapidly, and it was decided that a new facility was needed. A new, larger, and more modern facility was built in 1988 โ€“ 1989 at 9789 Sunset Road, St. Thomas, and the clinic was renamed the Elgin Animal Hospital. Dr. Adam Mahovlich started practicing veterinary medicine with the Elgin Animal Hospital / Talbot Animal Clinic (Collectively known as the Elgin Veterinary Clinics) in 2004 and became a partner in 2005 when Dr. Headly retired. In 2009 the Elgin Animal Hospital became an exclusively small animal practice and since then, the two clinics have focused on providing the most up to date, high quality care for their patients.

August 22 - Take your Cat to the Vet Day!

Did you know?
Cats are experts at hiding pain and illness. Even when they seem perfectly healthy, they may be masking underlying health problems. That's why routine wellness exams are so important!

๐Ÿ’š Regular veterinary visits help:
โœ” Detect health concerns early
โœ” Keep vaccinations up to date
โœ” Monitor weight and nutrition
โœ” Check teeth and oral health
โœ” Discuss behaviour changes
โœ” Keep your cat happy and healthy for years to come

๐Ÿก Indoor cats need veterinary care too!
Even cats that never go outside can develop dental disease, arthritis, kidney disease, diabetes, and other health conditions.

๐Ÿ“… Is your cat due for a checkup?
Celebrate Take Your Cat to the Vet Day by booking their wellness exam and giving them the preventive care they deserve.

๐Ÿ“ž Contact us today to schedule your cat's visit!
