As temperatures start to drop, you may be wondering how long your dog should spend outdoors. The answer depends on factors like their size, coat type, and age. Keep an eye out for signs they're getting too cold, such as slowing down, shivering, or lifting their paws. When you notice these cues, it's time to head inside and warm up.

Check out our Cold Weather Lookbook for more expert tips on keeping your pet safe and comfortable this season. 🐾❄️

We are often asked why people can’t just “drop in” to the Charlotte County SPCA (New Brunswick), and this is a great explanation.

It’s about what’s best for the animals and staff.

Can I drop in to see a dog?

ccspca.ca/FAQ

We discourage drop-ins. We’re a small shelter and want to give each visitor dedicated time with a trained animal attendant. Appointments let us make sure someone knowledgeable is available to introduce you to the dog, answer questions, and support a positive meet-and-greet.

Our dogs follow structured daily routines to reduce stress. This includes set rest periods, especially when staff shifts end. Sticking to their schedule helps them feel secure and settle better in the shelter environment.

An appointment can be set up by filling out our adoption application. This does not hold you to adoption but starts the process of adoption should there be a good match with a dog.

🐶 International Festival Event update 🐶

We had hoped to host a fun dog show at the Tides and Tails dog park this weekend, but the forecast hasn’t made it a particularly appealing option.

Instead, we invite anyone who’d like to participate in any of the categories listed below to come on into the store on Saturday between 10:30 a.m and 4 p.m. to showcase you and your dog.

We’ll record/take pictures, post on social media, and announce our winners on Sunday.

There won’t be an entry fee, but we would be happy to accept donations for the Charlotte County SPCA (New Brunswick) to participate.
We’ll have a selection of items we know the shelter needs on hand.

SOLD
Kennel for sale!

We are selling an extra Ferret Nation kennel we have used for our shelter cats.
Regularly $499.99, we are asking $250 plus HST.
The kennel is designed for ferrets, Guinea pigs, rats, or rabbits - and we have used these for shelter cats and kittens.
It would be great for a small animal, or it would be a great, safe, catio for your house cat.
Easy to disassemble for transport and cleaning.
