🐾✨ FUN FACT FRIDAY! ✨🐾

Did you know that Dalmatian puppies aren’t born with their famous spots?! 😲🐶

That’s right! When Dalmatian puppies are born, they have a beautiful, mostly white coat. Their signature black (or liver-colored 🤎) spots begin to appear during their first few weeks of life and continue to develop as they grow! 🐾

So that adorable little white puppy you meet today may look quite different as they get older! 🥰

Who knew those iconic spots were a work in progress? 🖤🤍

✂️🐱 Medical Grooming 🐱✂️

Meet Zoro! 🐈‍⬛This handsome Maine C**n came to see us because grooming himself was getting a little… ruff 😹 — and he was definitely NOT a fan of his owners trying to brush him! 🪮🙅‍♂️

Zoro was still trying his best to groom himself, but all that extra saliva getting stuck in his long fur caused multiple mats to form, making him pretty uncomfortable. 😿💔

So, with a little help from sedation, we gave Zoro a much-needed mat makeover! ✂️🐾 We shaved away all those uncomfortable mats and got him feeling much more comfortable again.

Long-haired kitties, especially Maine C**ns, need regular brushing to keep those gorgeous coats mat-free! 🪮✨ Of course, some cats believe brushing is a personal attack… and Zoro may have shared that opinion. 😂🐱

Zoro is now home relaxing, probably wondering why we took away his majestic fluff! 😹 He may feel a little more exposed than he’d prefer, but he is definitely more comfortable!

And honestly… that puffy tail and those little fur boots are just TOO CUTE! 🐾🧦😻

September is all about Responsible Pet Parents! 💚
But what does being a responsible pet parent really mean?

Being a responsible pet owner means taking responsibility for our pets, their safety, and the safety of those around us. It’s about doing our part to keep our pets healthy, happy, and safe.

Here are some important things responsible pet parents should be doing:

💩 Clean up after your pet!
Always pick up after your dog and properly dispose of their waste. It’s not only courteous to your neighbours — it helps keep our community clean and safe for people and other pets.
🐕 Keep your pet under control.
Follow local leash laws and make sure your pet cannot wander or approach people or animals without permission.
❤️ Keep up with veterinary care.
Regular wellness exams, vaccinations, parasite prevention, dental care, and early detection of health concerns are all part of being a responsible pet parent.
🏷️ Make sure your pet can be identified.
Keep identification tags and microchip information up to date in case your pet ever gets lost.
🏡 Provide a safe environment.
Pet-proof your home, secure your yard, and make sure your pet has access to appropriate food, water, shelter, exercise, and enrichment.
🐾 Socialize and train your pet.
Teaching good manners and helping pets become comfortable around people, animals, and different environments helps keep everyone safer.
👀 Be mindful of others.
Not everyone is comfortable around animals, and some pets may be fearful or reactive. Give others space and respect their boundaries.
🚗 Keep your pet safe while travelling.
Use appropriate restraints, carriers, or crates, and never leave your pet unattended in a hot or cold vehicle.

Know your pet and their needs.
Every pet is different. Understanding their behaviour, health needs, and individual limitations is an important part of responsible pet ownership.

🐱🩸 Run an FIV / FeLV Test With Us! 🩸🐱

FIV & FeLV testing is a quick blood screening that checks your cat for Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV) and Feline Leukemia Virus (FeLV).

And while your kitty may not be thrilled about the tiny poke 😹, this little test can tell us a LOT about their health!

Why should we test?
FIV and FeLV can affect a cat’s immune system and may not always cause obvious symptoms right away. Testing helps us know what we’re dealing with so we can provide the right care and keep a closer eye on your cat’s health. ❤️🐾

🚩 Is your cat showing any of these signs?

😴 Ongoing tiredness or weakness
⚖️ Weight loss or poor appetite
🌡️ Recurring fever
🤧 Frequent respiratory infections
🤢 Repeated illnesses or infections

Today, we’re taking a little extra time to remember the beloved pets who have crossed the rainbow bridge. 🌈🐶🐱🐾

Our pets may no longer be beside us, but the love they gave us never truly leaves. They remain woven into our lives—in our memories, our favorite stories, the little habits we still remember, and the paw prints they left forever on our hearts. 💕🐾

🕊️ Ways to remember a beloved pet today:
🖼️ Look through your favorite photos and videos together.
🕯️ Light a candle in their memory.
🌸 Visit a favorite walking spot or special place you shared.
💌 Write them a letter about the memories you cherish most.
🐾 Create a small memorial with their collar, photo, or favorite toy.

Dear Uptown Animal Clinic clients,

This is a final reminder that effective Tuesday, September 1, 2026, Uptown Animal Clinic will be transitioning to new clinic hours to better serve the needs of both our clients and our team.

Transition Week Schedule
Please note our schedule for the first week of September:

Tuesday, September 1: 7:30 AM – 4:30 PM
Wednesday, September 2: 7:30 AM – 4:30 PM
Thursday, September 3: 7:30 AM – 4:30 PM
Friday, September 4: Closed
Saturday, September 5: 7:30 AM – 4:30 PM
Sunday, September 6: 7:30 AM – 4:30 PM
Monday, September 7: Closed (Labour Day Holiday)

After this transition week, our regular schedule will be:

🐾🇨🇦 NATIONAL DOG DAY! 🐶💗

Today we’re celebrating the very best kind of best friend — DOGS! 🐕🥰

Dr. Messina is so lucky to share her life with her rescue dog, Royal, and sweet Kaylee!
Royal is her loyal sidekick and best friend, never too far from her side. 🥰 Kaylee keeps her laughing and smiling with her big personality and the cutest zoomies! 😂💨
These two play such a huge part in Dr. Messina’s life and fill it with so much love, laughter, and happiness! ❤️🐾

🐾💚 Kaylie loves Pickles more than anything—he’s truly her best friend and basically her four-legged child. 🥹 She loves spending her days with him, whether they’re out adventuring or simply curled up on the couch watching a movie together. Life is just better with Pickles by her side! 🐶💗

Ways to Spoil Your Dog Today:
🐾 Go for an extra-long walk or explore somewhere new
🦴Give them a special dog-friendly treat
🎾 Play their favourite game
