Observed each year on May 19, Plant Something Day encourages everyone to get outside, dig in the dirt, and grow something new, whether it’s flowers, herbs, trees, or vegetables. For Sprout’s lemon-themed collar, a “Lemon Boy” tomato plant felt like the perfect match. This heirloom tomato variety is famous for its bright golden-yellow color and sweet flavor, making it the ultimate tribute to everyone’s favorite lemon boy.

The crowns are a nod to Victoria Day, a Canadian holiday celebrated every May in honor of Queen Victoria, the British monarch who ruled from 1837 to 1901. She was so influential in Canada’s early history that her birthday became a national celebration. Even though her actual birthday was May 24, Victoria Day is celebrated on the Monday before May 25 each year. It’s often seen as the unofficial kickoff to summer in Canada, complete with fireworks, cottages, and BBQs. ☀️

The famous Canadian “May 2-4” as we like to call it:

* “2-4” means a case of 24 beers 🍺
* Victoria Day weekend usually falls around May 24
* So Canadians started calling the long weekend “May Two-Four”

Created to raise awareness and encourage conservation, the day reminds us that every species is a thread in Earth’s giant living tapestry. When one disappears, the ecosystem frays a little more. From sea turtles drifting through warm currents to wolves reclaiming forests, conservation efforts can and do make a difference 🌎🦋

One of the most critically threatened animals highlighted during this time is the rhino. These ancient grassland giants once roamed across Africa and Asia in huge numbers, like living tanks sculpted from moonstone and mud. Today, several rhino species are endangered due to poaching and habitat loss.
