🐾 A Little Paws & Praise Update! 🐾

As Paws & Praise continues to grow, I’m introducing a Cancellation & Confirmation Policy to help keep my schedule running smoothly and fairly for everyone. 💜

As a mobile groomer, each appointment is time specifically reserved for you and your kitty. My travel, route and evening are carefully planned around every visit.

Because I work on a commission basis, last-minute cancellations or unconfirmed appointments can leave a space in my schedule that I’m unable to fill. Like many small businesses, Paws & Praise is also part of how I help support our family of five, so having enough notice when plans change makes a big difference. 💜

And trust me — as a mom of three, I completely understand that life happens! 😂 This policy isn’t meant to make anyone feel bad for needing to change an appointment. It simply gives me a fair opportunity to offer that time to another kitty who may be waiting.

🐾 48+ hours’ notice: No fee
🐾 Less than 48 hours: $40 cancellation fee
🐾 Same-day cancellation: 50% of the scheduled service(s)

📱 Appointments must be confirmed. I’ll continue to send out appointment reminders the evening before your scheduled visit. I simply ask that you respond to confirm that we’re still good to go. If I don’t receive a confirmation, the appointment will be considered cancelled and I will not travel to your home.

Of course, genuine emergencies will always be considered individually. I may also occasionally need to reschedule due to illness, family emergency, unsafe weather/road conditions or other unforeseen circumstances.

✨ Meet Vinnie! ✨

This handsome blue-eyed boy was such a good kitty for his sanitary trim and nail trim! 😻✂️

Vinnie has such a neat story behind his colouring! His mom adopted him through CARMA, and when he was a kitten, he was the oddball of the litter—in the cutest possible way. 🥹 While his siblings looked like typical tabby kittens, Vinnie was mostly white! As he grew, those gorgeous creamy-orange markings started becoming more noticeable.

Vinnie’s colouring is consistent with a flame/cream point type of pattern. 🔥🤍 Pointed kittens are often born very pale because the gene responsible for their colour is temperature-sensitive. Their colour develops more strongly on cooler areas of the body as they grow, which is why their ears, face, legs and tail can gradually darken over time. Those beautiful blue eyes are another hallmark of the pointed pattern. 💙

So that little mostly-white kitten grew into one seriously handsome gentleman! 😍

🐾 I WENT IN FOR GROOMING SUPPLIES… THIS WAS A MISTAKE. 😂 🐾

Stopped into Pet Valu to stock up on supplies for Paws & Praise and somehow found myself standing in front of THREE BABY KITTENS thinking, “I mean… three kids, one cat… what’s another cat?” 🤦‍♀️😂

Someone please adopt these babies before I make a decision my husband was NOT consulted on. 😹

🐾 HOW OFTEN SHOULD I HAVE MY CAT GROOMED? 🐾

One of the questions I get asked a lot is: “How often does my cat actually need to be groomed?” 😻

The answer? It depends on the cat! Their coat type, age, health, weight, grooming habits and tolerance for brushing all play a role.

🐱 Short-Haired Cats
Many short-haired cats do well with a professional maintenance groom or de-shed about every 8–12 weeks, especially if they’re heavy shedders.

🐱 Long-Haired Cats
Long-haired beauties often benefit from grooming every 4–8 weeks. Their coats are much more prone to tangles and matting, particularly around the armpits, belly, chest and back end.

🐱 Senior or Overweight Cats
As cats age—or if they have difficulty reaching certain areas—they may stop keeping up with their coat like they once did. These kitties often benefit from grooming every 4–8 weeks, depending on how quickly their coat becomes greasy, tangled or impacted.

🐱 Cats Prone to Matting
If your kitty repeatedly develops mats, waiting until they’re badly matted usually means our options become much more limited. A regular 4–6 week maintenance schedule can help us stay ahead of the problem and may prevent the need for a full shave.

✂️ What about lion cuts?
There isn’t one set schedule! Some cats receive a lion cut a couple of times a year, while others benefit from more regular appointments. How quickly the coat grows back and why your kitty needs the lion cut are important factors.

💅 And don’t forget those nails!
Most cats benefit from a nail trim approximately every 4–6 weeks.

✨ The goal of routine grooming isn’t just to make your kitty look pretty.

Regular grooming helps remove loose coat, reduce shedding, prevent painful matting, keep nails at a comfortable length and gives us an opportunity to notice changes in the skin and coat.

And most importantly…

It’s much easier on your cat to maintain a healthy coat than to wait until there’s a problem. ❤️

🐾 THE BIG REVEAL — LUCILLE MAE! 🐾

You guys had some great guesses! 👀 We saw Maine C**n & Norwegian Forest Cat, with Flame Point and even Fire Point thrown into the mix!

The answer? 🥁…

Lucille Mae is a gorgeous Maine C**n with a Red Silver Classic Tabby coat! 🧡🤍

So what does that fancy name actually mean?

🧡 RED — In official cat colour terminology, what we often call orange or ginger is called red.

✨ SILVER — The base of the hairs is much lighter, giving her that beautiful silvery, almost frosted appearance underneath her red markings.

🌀 CLASSIC TABBY — Rather than thin stripes, the classic tabby pattern produces those beautiful broad swirls and curves, often forming a bullseye pattern along the sides.

And what about some of those guesses? 👀

🔥 Flame Point — This one is a real colour description! Flame (or red) point cats have a lighter body with their red colouring concentrated on the points — primarily the face, ears, legs and tail. Lucille Mae’s colouring isn’t restricted to her points; she has a tabby pattern throughout her coat.

🔥 Fire Point — It certainly sounds appropriate for a redhead 😂, but “fire point” isn’t an official coat colour or pattern. It’s sometimes used casually or confused with flame point.

And of course…

🐱 Maine C**n — If you guessed the breed, you got it! Those tufted ears, big fluffy paws, gorgeous shaggy coat and impressive size were some pretty good clues. 😉

So if you guessed Maine C**n, give yourself a point. If you somehow nailed Red Silver Classic Tabby too…

🐾 Meet Sweet Faith 🐾

Faith’s story didn’t have the easiest beginning. She was found by SOS – Strays of Sussex before eventually finding her forever home with her wonderful mom and her sons. ❤️

When Faith first came to them, she was incredibly timid—especially around women. While her history has never been confirmed, it’s believed that she may have experienced abuse before being rescued.

But you would never know it from the beautiful soul she is today. 🥹 Despite whatever she may have endured, Faith has the sweetest, gentlest personality. She’s a quiet little girl in more ways than one—Faith actually can’t meow. It’s almost as though she has lost her voice somewhere along the way. ❤️‍🩹

We had the privilege of spending some time with Faith, carefully removing some uncomfortable matting and giving this special girl the gentle pampering she deserves. ✂️🐱

And I can’t help but think Faith is the perfect name for her. Her story is a beautiful reminder of what a little faith can do—the faith to trust again, the faith to feel safe again, and the faith that after a difficult beginning, something beautiful can still be waiting ahead. ✨

Sweet Faith, you deserved your second chance, and you certainly found it. 💕🐾

I’m currently working on mapping out the route for my upcoming Grand Manan Mobile Cat Grooming visit! 🐱✂️

With the number of kitties joining me, I’ll be expanding the trip over TWO DAYS — September 19th & 20th! 💙

I’m working through everyone’s locations and services to create the most efficient route possible. Once everything is mapped out, I will personally reach out to each booked client with your confirmed date and approximate appointment time.
