✨ From hiding away… to soaking up the snuggles. - Stormis’ Transformation ❤️🐾

When Stormi’s mom reached out, she shared that Stormi just wasn’t herself anymore. She had started spending more time hiding upstairs, didn’t enjoy being brushed, and wasn’t seeking out the affection she normally loved.

During her groom, we found moderate matting on her hind end, belly, and legs. Matting isn’t just a cosmetic issue—it pulls tightly on the skin with every movement, making walking, jumping, and even being petted uncomfortable or painful.

With the help of gabapentin prescribed by her veterinarian, Stormi was able to stay calm and relaxed throughout her grooming appointment. After receiving a much-needed lion cut, the transformation wasn’t just in her appearance…

It was in her spirit. 💜

Her mom noticed an almost immediate change. Stormi stopped hiding, started seeking out attention again, and is now happily soaking up all the cuddles and affection she can get. Seeing cats feel comfortable, confident, and pain-free again is one of the most rewarding parts of what I do.

Sometimes a groom isn’t about looks—it’s about giving your cat their comfort, confidence, and quality of life back.

✨ Louie the Silver Shaded Chinchilla Persian ✨

Isn’t he absolutely stunning? 😻 Louie is a Silver Shaded Chinchilla Persian, one of the most elegant and eye-catching Persian varieties. With his sparkling silver coat, striking dark “eyeliner,” and sweet teddy bear face, it’s easy to see why this breed is so loved.

Louie recently enjoyed a maintenance groom, which included a thorough brush out, de-shed, sanitary & paw trim, nail trim, ear cleaning, and a waterless bath to help keep his luxurious coat soft, healthy, and tangle-free. Regular maintenance grooms are especially important for Persians, as their dense double coats can quickly develop mats if not cared for.

💜 Why Do Some Cats Need Gabapentin Before Grooming? 💜

At Paws & Praise Mobile Cat Grooming, I’m often asked whether cats need a sedative and what options are available.

Gabapentin is a medication prescribed by your veterinarian that can help reduce fear, anxiety, and stress in some cats. While many cats do wonderfully during grooming, others may become overwhelmed by handling, nail trims, brushing, or clipping.

When used appropriately, gabapentin can help:
🐾 Reduce stress and anxiety
🐾 Make grooming a more positive experience
🐾 Improve safety for both your cat and groomer
🐾 Allow necessary grooming to be completed more comfortably
🐾 Help senior cats or cats with arthritis who may be uncomfortable during handling

Not every cat needs gabapentin. I typically recommend speaking with your veterinarian if your cat:
• Becomes highly stressed during handling
• Has a history of aggression or fear during grooming
• Has previously been unable to complete a grooming appointment
• Is very sensitive due to age, pain, or medical conditions

⏰ If prescribed by your veterinarian, gabapentin is generally given about 1.5–2 hours before your grooming appointment so it has time to take full effect.

At Paws & Praise, my goal is always low-stress, fear-free handling. Sometimes that means taking lots of breaks, and sometimes it means working with your veterinarian to help your cat feel their best before grooming.

Because every groom should end in praise. 💜🐱

We removed enough fur to make her a twin sister 😹

We LOVE when owners also get into the grooming spirit 🤣

This sweet senior kitty was carrying a significant amount of matted fur, and her dad couldn’t resist having a little fun by arranging the removed coat into the shape of a cat. We had a good laugh!

While the photo is funny, severe matting is no joke. Mats can pull tightly on the skin, restrict movement, trap moisture and debris, and make it difficult for senior cats to groom themselves comfortably.

After getting rid of all that excess coat, this pretty girl was feeling much lighter, cleaner, and far more comfortable. 💜

Senior cats often need a little extra help with grooming, and that’s exactly what we’re here for. 💜🐈

✨Handsome got even more handsome! 🖤✨

This sweet boy was sporting a few mats under his belly, armpits, and around his sanitary area that were beginning to cause discomfort and make grooming difficult. After a gentle lion cut, he’s feeling much lighter, cleaner, and more comfortable for the warmer months ahead.

Removing mats isn’t just about appearance—mats can pull on the skin, trap moisture and debris, and limit a cat’s ability to move and groom comfortably. By safely removing those problem areas, Handsome can get back to doing what cats do best: lounging, playing, and looking fabulous.

He was such a good boy throughout his groom, and we think he’s rocking his new look! 🐾

This sweet girl’s mom reached out because their upstairs apartment gets incredibly warm during the summer months, and unfortunately air conditioning isn’t allowed in the building.

This beautiful girl was an absolute superstar for her groom and is now ready to enjoy the warmer weather feeling fresh, clean, and much more comfortable. ☀️🐾

☀️🦁 This lion is ready for summer!! - Meet Springer! 🦁☀️

This handsome big boy got a fresh lion cut to help him stay cool and comfortable during the warm summer months. Springer was an absolute sweetheart throughout his groom—and let’s just say treats were definitely the way to his heart! 🍗😸

A lion cut can be a great option for some long-haired cats, especially during the summer. Benefits may include:

🐾 Keeping the coat cleaner and easier to maintain
