Wild Tails Adventures is collecting pet supplies to take to the Emergency Donation Centre in Penticton!

We’re looking for things like:
🐶 Dog & cat food/treats
🐱 Cat litter & supplies
🦮 Leashes & collars
🛏️ Blankets & pet beds
🧻 Puppy pads
🧸 Other new or clean pet supplies
💵 E-transfers can be sent to [email protected]

Donations can be dropped off with us or handed to me during your regular Wild Tails pick-up/drop-off.

Did you know that your dog's vision and their sense of smell are integrated?

"Cornell researchers have provided the first documentation that dogs’ sense of smell is integrated with their vision and other unique parts of the brain, shedding new light on how dogs experience and navigate the world.

“We’ve never seen this connection between the nose and the occipital lobe, functionally the visual cortex in dogs, in any species,” said Pip Johnson, assistant professor in the Department of Clinical Sciences in the College of Veterinary Medicine and senior author of “Extensive Connections of the Canine Olfactory Pathway Revealed by Tractography and Dissection,” published July 11 [2002] in the Journal of Neuroscience.

“It makes a ton of sense in dogs,” she said. “When we walk into a room, we primarily use our vision to work out where the door is, who’s in the room, where the table is. Whereas in dogs, this study shows that olfaction is really integrated with vision in terms of how they learn about their environment and orient themselves in it.”

THIS is the reason I spend money on a crash rated kennels and I always use them. Even when they’re a pain to move from one vehicle to the next. The peace of mind they give me is worth every penny. Crash tested kennels also really hold their value and mine look brand new even though 2 of them are 10 years old!!

And if you do the maths, and your dog lives for over 10 years, then they really are a great investment!

✅ Call owner immediately
❌ Call out, chase or spook her
❌ Do NOT leave food unattended this is a heavy wildlife area
✅ Keep eyes on her from a distance until owners arrive

After a severe MVA - We need sightings to continue coming in, but it is equally important that people keep their distance and avoid disturbing the area where she is being seen.

This is critical for a dog in flight, especially following the accident she was involved in. Approaching, calling to, or attempting to follow her can cause her to flee further and make recovery much more difficult.

We greatly appreciate the community’s support and ask that everyone continue to report sightings immediately while giving her the space she needs to feel safe. Thank you for helping bring her home safely.

Baby season is here, and while our first instinct is often to help, sometimes the best thing we can do is give wildlife space.

Every year, well-meaning people accidentally orphan healthy babies because they look alone, cold, or “abandoned.” In reality, many parents are nearby watching, feeding, or waiting for you to leave.

Mittens wants you to remember:
Feathered bird hopping around? Probably a fledgling — leave it be.
Bunny nest in the grass? Cover it back up and keep pets away.
Baby squirrel on the ground? Give mom a chance to come back.
Fawn lying alone? Mom likely left it there on purpose.

When in doubt take photos, keep your distance, and text the photo to us before intervening. (Our phone rings off the hook and the first thing we will do is ask for a photo)
